- Testing Procedure: Minimum of 3 shaves with each razor, using new Astra Superior Stainless blades, each time using with-the-grain and against-the-grain passes. Products included Proraso green preshave, Cella red and Tabac soaps, Zenith boar, Nivea Cooling Post-Shave Balm.
- Rankings:
- Rockwell 6S: This good friend remains the standard by which all other razors will be compared. Smooth, efficient, non-irritating, long-lasting shaves. Bank vault-like construction. Lovely.
- Feather AS-D2: Love the design, matte finish, feel and weight. It delivers an incredibly comfortable shave, albeit at a slight risk of weepers. In this case only, I expanded the blade choice to include Feather’s own blade. It was a perfect match. Luxurious.
- RazoRock Game Changer .68: RazoRock’s CNC machining is wonderful, and of their 3, this was the best combination of style, comfort and performance. It delivered the longest-lasting shaves; often my face remained BBS smooth even at the end of the workday. Wow.
- RazoRock Lupo .72: Milder than the Game Changer, but mildness at a price. As my technique improved, the Game Changer delivered longer-lasting shaves, while all other aspects of the shave were the same. Gentle.
- RazoRock Mamba .70: Many have perfected the technique this razor requires, but I simply could not. Meh.
The Mamba will be gifted to someone with better technique than I. But the Feather AS-D2, Game Changer and Lupo earned a place in my razor rotation.
