Ever-Readys are a steal

I have to quit looking at razors on "that" website. I got an Ever-ready 1912 for $5. I plan on giving her a shot on saturday.

I hope one of you knowledgeable fellows could help me out.

Does the case match the razor? Is there any way to tell (ballpark) when this thing was made?

Thanks!

Tom-(Hoosier Trooper) should be along in due time. Whatever- that is a nice razor and a fine looking case!

I think you're probably in proper order there. Here's an ad for a cheaper set version of the same razor that looks to be from the same era, from the July 27, 1933 issue of the Bladen Journal of Elizabethtown, NC (click to see it larger and in context):

I have one of that same model myself (on the left below) but I don't have a case for it:

Ever-Ready came out with their version of the 1912 around 1930 and called it the Improved Ever-Ready, which is what's on this case, so it's definitely correct. Nice find!

I used this little jewel yesterday to mixed results.

The razor performed flawlessly, the gem blades, bought from Walgreens, were not so good. Rough shave but only one nick. I double applied aftershave to counter this, and am giving my face a break today.

For completeness, my set up was Speick stick, Omega boar brush, Gem blade, Speick atershave splash.

Did you use the GEM Personna Coated Stainless Steel blades that Walgreens sells ? If so,unless you somehow got a defective blade I would check the razor's alignment or perhaps examine your technique.I shaved with that exact same setup this morning for the first time in several weeks and was surprised at how mild it felt in comparison to the SE razors I've been using lately.

That one.
As for my Technique it was my first time using a SE razor. I did make sure the razor was well seated. I rotated the handle from 90 degrees to get a good angle. Like you said it may have been a bad blade.

I'll try again next saturday.

Thanks

Awesome razors, I like mine! The blades are the ones I use, I have to do multiple passes and more touchup than with my DE, but have never got a nick, weeper, or burn with them- Good stuff there!
