Ever-Ready 100T Restore

Ok so I was discussing DE shaving with my Dad recently (mostly picking his brain about what products he used way back when, as well as my grandpa) during our discussion he pulls an old Gilette Slim Adjustable and an Ever-Ready 100T out of the closet. They were my grandfathers brush and razor that my dad inherited and had never used. Needless to say I was excited to clean them up and use them, however the knot in the brush was unusable.

So here is my dilemma, I want to restore the brush on my own similar to what Vferdman did (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php/307759-Ever-Ready-100T) with the one he found, but i dont necessarily care for the blonde knot he chose.

My question is, I want something a bit different than my current Vulfix 1000A (20mm x 51mm loft). I like the look of a black badger knot but may want to stick with a quality boar knot since that was the original for that handle. What are your opinions on knot choice?

Also what loft should I try out, Im thinking I like the look of a shorter, wider knot but not sure the difference in performance.

Any advice or opinions would be appreciated. Thanks

Well due to a lack of advice on here :thumbdown I decided to go with the 22mm black badger knot from TheGoldenNib.

I took a page out of Vferdman's book and rounded the corners but just slightly. Cleaned the handle and sanded out any imperfections, then I polished it up.
I then epoxied a small bolt into the bottom of the handle and filled the void with plumbers caulk. Epoxied the new knot into the handle and viola!

Below is the before and after shots of the brush.

Great restoration. You just helped me decide what knot I will use on a the same Ever-Ready handle that I have.

What is "plumbers caulk" ?

i have the same brush. what did you do to get the knot out? drilled? i was thinking of trying to steam it out.

Glad I could help with your decision, for me the black badger was a no-brainer. Plumbers caulk is just the rubbery stuff that is in a tube that plumbers use to seal cracks etc. You can get it in the hardware store for cheap.

I drilled the knot out using a couple pilot holes and then used the dremel, I would think the steam method may melt/damage the handle.
