Even a blind squirrel finds a nut every once in a while...

I thought I would share a recent ebay purchase that is perhaps one of my better finds for the price.

Maybe 2 or 3 times a year I will buy a razor off ebay for cheap with the intention of restoring for myself, using it a while and possibly keeping it or selling it depending on how much I like it. I typically set a maximum limit of $15 for such a razor. Well earlier this week I won an auction, only 2 bids, for $13 shipped.

Here is the razor I bought for $13.... yes those are ivory scales and an ivory tang. It goes to show that sometimes even a blind squirrel finds a nut. :biggrin1:

Just beautiful. I love the way the ivory extends to the tip of the tang and the way the ivory is inset into the metal instead of placed on. Beautiful craftsmanship.
I know it's not common to find things like this on the bay, but this why I love the bay.

Nice Score
Usually don't find washers on Ivory scales either

True, which is why I opted not to use any washers when I repinned it. Now the pivot and wedge pins match and look more traditional to an ivory scaled razor.

Definitely, The wedge looks more traditional Ivory. But if it has been unpinned you can repin it much easier to clean it up. That thing should shine up quite beautifully. I love admiring my ivory razors but slowly working towards maybe one day unpinning it and putting aluminum liner on it so I don't have to fear so much of cracking it or breaking them

How'd you polish it up so nicely? I can't seem to get that mirror finish unless your looking at it from an angle. There are just so many little micro scratches over my razor when you look at it face on
