What's new

Eureka!

I was so excited that I felt the need to share this story of discovery...

Up until today I had been shaving with a can of 'blue stuff' and a DE razor fitted with blades that I could buy locally, but were completely wrong for hacking through my impossibly thick stubble. This was because I was waiting for my blades and brush to arrive in the mail. Well, they came today.

Like a 5 year-old on Christmas I felt the need to play with my new 'toys', so I decided to lather up an unpleasant sounding T&H sample cream (the 'rose' scent..seriously, I smelled like a workin' gal) to see how it went. I got a nice, thick, creamy lather and applying it with the brush was amazing. Since I was all lathered up, I pulled out the Feathers and had myself an afternoon shave. Wow! This wasn't the typical shave. The shaving cream actually lubricated my face (and was a complete joy to apply), the blades didn't remove skin, and I didn't feel like I had used a rusty paper shredder on my face.

I'm completely hooked. I still need to explore blades and improve my technique, but I wish that I had discovered this sooner. I can't imagine why people quit shaving this way.

Feathers or Personna Hospital blades are the two I'd recommend. Smelled like a workin' gal, that was hilarious. I actually burst out laughing and scared my dog

I'd actually pay money to smell a working gal....is that the same thing? Is that wrong?

Congrats on a great shave. Amazing the Feathers didn't tear you up. You must be one of the lucky ones. Come December I'll have been DE shaving 3 years and I won't even consider touching a Feather blade.

'Wrong' is pretty subjective, so you're in the clear. To be frank, I was absolutely terrified of the Feathers given their reviews on this site but I'm still alive with a few more brands to try, so we'll see what happens.

No need to be afraid of the feather. They're just like any other blade, except you have to go a little slower, and definitely not use pressure.

Congrats on your shave! There are definitely a ton of different blades out there to try and this site is great resource for reviews and other notes. Personally, I like feathers really well, but they certainly aren't for everyone. As many people on here can tell you, shaving this way will change the way you view shaving.

I wasn't brave enough to try DE shaving without a good brush and cream. Hey, at least you lived to tell the tale! I shaved the first time at the fire station in case I needed first aid!
