Eureka!!! I figured it out.

Rob, nice job. Whatever works is the important thing. But other things enter into the equation as well like water hardness and the individual brand of soap. In the case of Mitchell's WF for instance, the wet method never works for me. You'll just end up with a bowl of bubbles. I like Jim's method but I don't wring every last drop of water from the brush. I always start by adding about a teaspoon of hot water to the puck and let it sit for a bit. Then I pour it off and start with a brush where the water has been flicked off a few times. It seems to work with everything except the MWF which wants it drier. Anyway you're getting a good shave and having fun. Sounds good to me.
