What's new

ESEE Venom Green Line; Pretty sweet!

I just ordered myself an ESEE 5 in this line, pretty excited to check it out. Most of my blades are satin or black finish, along the "tacticool" lines, but this one seems very "practicool" if you will, if you plan on using it primarily for bushcraft etc. It's not going to get lost in the brush as easily as my other blades, that's for sure! And the ESEE 5 is a knife I've been wanting to pick up for a long time anyways, so this new color gave me enough differentiation to justify pulling the trigger.

I would think this finish is pretty polarizing... I for one think it's pretty cool, but I'd love to hear what others think.

All you need is a trebble hook and it can double as a fishing lure! Cool knife though, I have donated several to the wild, that would not have happened with that finish.

Indeed.

And the 5 is my favorite ESEE design.
It's just a little "quirky feature"... but the divot in the scales is intended to be used as the top bearing for a bow drill if your other fire-starting methods don't get the job done.

Exactly! That divot was the main reason I went with the 5 over the 6. I was torn between the two, but the five's slightly more manageable size coupled with that cool divot sealed the deal. Of course now that I will have the 5... I'm sure I'll think of a reason why I also need to have the 6. :)

I'll post up a pic of it when it gets here. The photo above was the most realistic I could find; it looks like most places putting up pics of these blades are upping the saturation to make the blade look super green and the handle super orange, but I don't think the colors are quite as exaggerated as some pics make them out to be.

Super green, that just made me think of this...

Ruby Rhod would definitely approve of that knife as an accessory!

LOL!

Same here.

I bought the 5, and that is one BEEFY blade.
I was thinking about a 6, then I saw their $220 (or was it $270?) Survival Pack, which includes a 6, space blanket, water purification, and a bunch of other basic survival stuff, so I bought that and keep the pack behind the seat in my truck.

I don't know if they make two different model 6 blades or not, but the blade in the survival kit is thinner than the 5.
I would have no problem batoning the 5 through a 4x4, but I would be concerned that the 6 may not hold up.

Yeah now that you mention it, when i was researching them that was another thing I preferred about the 5 was that extra blade width. Seemed odd that it was thicker than the 6, but then maybe its intended use is more camp chore - bushcraft that the 6, as evidenced by the bow notch. It can likely handle a lot of abuse. At any rate, that chunky blade had me coveting it. I'd forgotten that! Thanks for the reminder, now I'm extra psyched!

Super Green!

Wow, so it just arrived! And man, it is a gorgeous knife! Talk about some heft... It definitely feels like it would live up to its heritage and intended use. It is a beast, 1/4" blade! Feels like you could baton with this all day and it would keep coming back for more. I'm glad I went with the 5 over the 6; it is plenty of knife. I'm very, very happy with it.

here are a couple of pics. It actually is very bright, brighter than I thought it would be. In this case, that's a good thing. I put it next to the included info sheet for a point of reference; the knife is so thick that without a scale reference it actually looks smaller overall than it really is in pictures.
