New to ERN razors and found a Primus 671. The tang is stamped ”E”, never seen this before. What does this indicate? She shaves fine
No answer yet, but found this.
“But it is not necessary to forget that in Solingen there were 7! factories ERN, and can and more.
August Ern — 1880 based
C. Friedrich Ern — 1873
E. Ern and Co. — about 1878
Friedrich Ern and Co — 1888
Gustav Emil Ern — 1903
Walter Ern — about 1922
W.C. Ern and Co. — about 1920
As these all factories marked their production, impossible to know.”
Does this mean the razor is possible from about 1878? Might turn out to be the oldest razor I have.
The eagle and snake was used from 1874 by C. Friedrich ERN & Co. until it was superseded in 1896 with the more familiar crown and sword. It seem to match up, but confirmation by someone knowledgeable would be great.
I’d look more into the eagle and snake logo to determine age. I know that logo changed over the years

That particular snake and eagle looks like one of the newer ones.
I have a similar one on an Ern 288 razor, marked " Wald - Solingen ",
which I interpret as meaning after Wald was absorbed by Solingen.
I don't know for a fact, but I suspect that the grind numbers
are roughly chronically sequential, and that the older snake and eagle
logos have more detail.
I have a 27, a 28 and a 38, where the snake is outlined.
On the 270 and the 288, the snake is a line.
On the 27 the snakes head is distinct and the eagle has stripes
across its tail feathers.
On the 28, the snakes eye is distinct.
Before Wald was absorbed by Solingen, it was called either Wald
or Wald bei Solingen.
The 288 is the only razor I ever bought just because I liked the
logo on the handle.
