Finally re-knotted my grandpa's brush! :w00t:

22mm horsehair knot from LarryAndro set at ~52mm loft

Will post lather/post-bloom (does horsehair bloom?) pics if waiting for the epoxy to cure doesn't kill me first :lol:

Excellent family heirloom :thumbup1:

Aaaarghhhh, horsehair, another knot I'd like to try........... resists going off to Ebay to find another handle..........:001_rolle

Very, very cool! I wish that I had some of my grandpa's shave gear, but none of it exists any more. Never let that priceless piece of family history out of your sight!

The good news:
I did a pretty jam-up job setting the knot, candle wax works as a handle filler, and overall, it doesn't look half bad. i would post post-bloom pics, but it looks basically the same as before... :001_rolle
I'll update if it turns up to be a late-bloomer *rimshot*

BUT

I was forewarned by Larry about these knots.

He backs up his badger knots with a full money-back guarantee, but not the horsehair;

these knots (for reasons unknown to science) tend to get all tangly in the middle...

I'm a bit let down by it, not upset.

In fact I see this as a sign that i should've splurged the extra 2 bucks for the badger knot :lol:

I've figured out a sensible workaround for now, a regimen of running the brush across a paddle-style hairbrush after every use to minimize the tangling. A bit inconvenient, but for the small amount invested, i think it was worth seeing if i could set the knot without ruining it (or the handle for that matter :001_rolle)

Overall, not such a bad deal. Larry's an awesome guy to work with, very quick to respond to questions, great prices, and a true gentleman.

Thanks again Larry, I'm excited to try one of your badger knots as soon as i get tired of fiddling with this one to make it work :lol:

Wow!, i guess i was missing out by not having a "good" badger brush. Overall, just enough backbone for face lathering, and so soft i can't even tell there's a brush. Anybody have extra handles they don't want :lol:? Larry's got ahold of some winners :thumbup:
