What's new

English NEW solid bar?

Is this a solid bar NEW? This razor is not mine, so I cannot provide more pictures. It was made in England. Assuming this was some sort of transitional razor between the NEW and the Tech, it might be the first Gillette SB.
Anyone ever seen one like this?

As Achim stated, it's a New/Tech Hybrid. They are fantastic shavers.

The one I own came in a bakelite case.

Here are some side by side comparison images I took a while back.

Doh!
I should have checked Mr-Razor. Of course, Achim would know what it is. Danke!
Xillion:
Those are great pics of very nice looking razors. I love my UK raised flat bottom NEWs. I'm not a big fan of SB razors, but it would be nice to get one of these hybrid razors ...

Why did England have so many cool razors that the US didn't?

Starting around the NEW era they seem to have given them a bit more free reign to come up with their own designs. This may have been a ripple effect of the changes in Gillette following the AutoStrop merger, or it could have been from Gillette starting to pull in some of the assets and concepts from the Roth-Büchner acquisition, or perhaps it was some of both.

In the case of the NEW/Tech hybrid, it's a pretty logical step really. They already had the manufacturing process to get up to the NEW guard plate blank. All they had to do was mill gutter slots into it rather than the comb, and -- Poof! -- you've got a Tech razor instead of a NEW.

First time I've heard of or seen one of these. If I'd run across one, I'm sure I would've thought it was a Frankenrazor. Thanks for your post and to the razor gurus for their informative comments.
