Sorry for going on and on guys!
It’s been tough recently.
We had a local State Trooper shot a couple months back. He has just been transferred to a rehabilitation hospital in Houston.
One of our fellow officers is at MD Anderson in Houston. Her cancer is terminal.
This Mission officer shot and killed last night on top of the Nebraska Trooper killed last night also.
My wife and I just watched the entire escort procession of the officer’s body from the Hospital to the Funeral Home.
July 10, 1993 with be the 26th anniversary of the 1st “brother” I lost.

Thanks

Personally, I don't think enough can be said. As former military, I really appreciate the sacrifice that officers make every day. It is a dangerous undertaking and seems to be getting more dangerous these days.

I wasn’t this way when I started nearly 33 years ago. When I was on patrol it was just who was the better man that night; one on one, hand to hand. Of course you had the oddball now and then with a knife or gun but now the gun is the norm and they have no issues shooting an LEO.
Customs Officers and Border Patrol Officers are now being assaulted daily. This never used to happen.

Something has got to give.

That is tough, Marty. That's a loss of a close brother. I hate going to the funerals. Prayers for the MD P.D. Cpl. Espericueta's family, and for the family of the Nebraska Trooper. I hope the DPS Trooper recovers well.

I was in a rather long profiling of serial killers course at the DPS Training facility in Austin several years ago with this Trooper not long after this happened. I had seen the video as training video just before I went to Austin. Notice how he does a circling movement running for the cover of his patrol car and to gain distance, then runs up and uses the suspect vehicle as cover. It turned out well...one suspect killed and one wounded. Lopez didn't get a scratch. Tactics and luck.

Well...I say he didn't get a scratch. He was very quiet and reserved at that time. That kind of crap has an effect on you.

I remember this video. Great training.

“Our Trooper” was shot in the head, he doesn’t respond to voices, and has a feeding tube. But doesn’t need assistance with breathing. TX DPS Trooper Moises Sanchez.

Tonight is a run from the Mission Police Department to the spot where Officer Espericueta was killed. There will be a memorial service there I am told.

Wish I could be there with you. I told the wife about Cpl. Espericueta. She said "Glad you're out of it now." But since I'm retired now with not much to do I'm thinking about getting my license reactivated and going to the Reserves at the S.O. I could do paid Security work at the fair or other activities that they hire L.E. for.

It’s not like when we were young!

I hear that. Things are getting nasty.

There are computers in the cars now also. I still have the remnants of a callus on a finger from handwriting reports instead of typing it out on a computer keyboard.

I could always do a ride-a-long program to kinda sorta get up to speed. Since most don't allow ride-a-longs to carry I'd need to make sure the Deputy or whomever left the shotgun rack unlocked when they make me stay in the car during a hot call...if they don't drop me off first at a store or somewhere like we used to do with ride-a-longs when we were going to a hot call. Experienced back-up is back-up when you need it. Sometimes it takes a long time for another unit to get there...especially if you are a County Deputy and way out in the sticks.

Maybe some old school techniques thrown at the newer, more violent young thugs would throw them a bit of a curve ball. But that's not politically correct. Just a thought.

Missouri Police Officer shot and killed today.

It's getting to be about a daily occurrence now.

I just went to the Officer Down site. Don't go there much...don't like to see it.

I think I may have to jump back in and help.

That is great about the N.Y. Yankees. I got one of their baseball hats a few months ago. They have won more World Series than any other team.

They have a beautiful article about Cpl Espericueta’s funeral. They also have a video of the entire service.
It was something special to see.
Monday his body was escorted from the funeral home in Edinburg, Texas to the church in Mission, Tx. I am thinking about 15 miles.
The entire westbound expressway was shutdown. U.S. Border Patrol had units along the shoulder most of the way. Customs, Border Patrol, and Tx DPS had helicopters overhead. People lined both sides of the street in front of the church.
The escort began with about 20 motorcycles and then.... It took approximately 45 minutes for the last marked unit to reach the church.
At his funeral yesterday there were over 1,000 uniformed officers. The church seats 2,500 and it was standing room only.
What a beautiful send off!!
Unit 350 is 10-42.

California Highway Patrol officer Andre Moye Jr was murdered by a convicted felon with a rifle during a traffic stop. Rest In Peace.

Texas DPS Trooper Moises Sanchez died Saturday. His EOW came after being shot in the head and shoulder back in April of this year.

Texas State Trooper Moises Sanchez’ unit has been parked outside his duty station. I went there early this morning to talk with him and pray for his family. It was pitch black outside and very quiet. A very peaceful goodbye prayer.
