Email From Penhaligon's; English Fern Shave Soap Is No More

Gents, this is not big news to some but as of now, the English Fern shave soap is a note in history. I had seen various forum posts about English Fern that led me to suspect that maybe the entire line was disappearing. I sent an email to Penhaligon's last week asking about English Fern and the lack of Hammam Bouquet on the USA website. Yesterday I got a friendly email from a Penhaligon's USA representative. I will paraphrase here but the gist of it is identical to the email.

English Fern shave soap is no more. Discontinued. Replace with the "iconic" scent, Sartorial. The edt will remain and as of now they have no intent to discontinue it . Whew. And what about Hammam? She said it will be back on site in January 2014. This is great news because I only recently discovered how great this fragrance is and if it would have been discontinued or not imported to the States, well...I don't know what I would have done. Again, probably no news to those who follow such things but he loss of English Fern as a shave soap is disheartening. And official.

Indeed gents, a sad development. Personally I think the future does not bode well for English Fern. Mind, this is ONLY my speculation. With the recent reformulations of a great many male scents to either reduce or remove oakmoss(some now just list tree moss or moss) I fear traditional old fragrances are not long for this world. I think in a few years Sartorial will be the only 'fougere' to be found at Penhaligon's. I use that term lightly because I have smelled Sartorial and it is a distant cousin at best to English Fern. It is a nice scent but simply misses the charm of English Fern. I hope I am wrong about this..but time will tell.

I'm glad I got mine when I did...what a fabulous scent! It evokes images of England and the sartorial English gentleman. Why on earth would they want to discontinue this excellent soap!
