I recently received a shipment of some exceptional Desert Ironwood, which is one of my favorite woods to work.
Shown below are the first three brushes made from this delivery, as well as an Acacia wood brush. They can all accommodate either a 24 or 26mm knot. These brushes are listed and available at my site at http://www.eliterazor.com.

Desert Ironwood grows in the washes and valleys of the Sonoran Desert below 2,500 foot elevation. Desert Ironwood is very hard and dense. It actually sinks in water. Tradition has it that carvings made from the Desert Ironwood bring good fortune and long life. Desert Ironwood reaches maturity at 2000 years, more or less. It was originally used by the Seri Native Americans of Mexico for tool handles. Today the Seri Indians make carvings of desert plants and animals from the ironwood. Desert Ironwood was the original choice of material for the grips of the Colt .45 handgun.

Acacia Wood is a durable hard wood from fast growing trees from the Far East and South America. It has long been valued as a timber tree in the United States. In Virginia and New England, Acacia was used for treenails in shipbuilding, being hard, strong, inelastic, and durable. Acacia wood is often mentioned in reference to objects used in the construction of the tabernacle in the book of Exodus. Of greatest importance is its use in the construction of the Ark of the Covenant.

I have just completed a new 26mm Prism brush and it is listed and available on my site at http://www.eliterazor.com.
It is shown below with a Manchurian White 2-band knot set at a 52mm loft. The overall height of the brush is 116mm. The second picture was taken after a 1/4 turn of the handle and you can see how the presentation changes as the handle turns in your hand.

Desert Ironwood Burl is one of my favorite woods to turn. It is very hard and stable and turns and finishes beautifully. I just received 5 pieces (shown below) that have the most extraordinarily figured grain patterns I have seen in many years. These pieces will each yield 2 brush handles that can accommodate either a 24 or 26mm knot, depending upon the handle shape. If you are interested in having a brush or a handle built from one of these rare pieces, please PM me.

Pre-ban Brazilian Rosewood - This wood was imported into the US in the mid-1960's and was originally intended to be used to build cue sticks. I have just a few pieces left that have not yet been turned. I was very fortunate to come across this wood and this is the first piece of true Brazilian Rosewood I have seen in quite a few years and do not expect to find it available again.

I was able to get some good shop time last night and this morning and have completed a couple fo new brushes that have just been listed in the Specialty Brushes section on my site at http://www.eliterazor.com.

The first 2 are made of Mokume-Gane. Mokume-Gane (pronounced Moe-koo-may Gah-nay) is the ancient Japanese metal working technique where layers of contrasting color metals such as copper, brass, nickel silver, gold, and silver are fusion welded with very high heat and pressure into one solid block of metal. Traditional Mokume-Gane is extremely rare and sells for hundreds if not thousands of dollars for a very small quantity. The name “Mokume Gane” refers to the visual appearance of a pattern in metal approximating that of wood. “Mokume” literally means “wood eye”, which would be used to describe a highly figured wood grain. “Gane” translates as metal. So, in English, “wood grain metal” is a near-literal translation.

I hope everyone has a safe and happy Labor day weekend. I stumbled across this piece of imported European resin in my shop last week while cleaning (a task I don't undertake as often as I should). It's a beautiful Cobalt blue with black running through it. It is shown with a 24mm knot, but can be adjusted to accept a 26mm knot.

It is listed an available on my site at http://www.eliterazor.com

A couple of weeks ago, I posted a picture of some exceptional blocks of Gallery Grade Plus Desert Ironwood burl.
The two brushes shown below are from one of the blocks. The figure in this wood is some of the best I've seen in a very long time.

Both brushes have just been listed and are available on my site at http://www.eliterazor.com. They are shown below wiht a 24mm knot, but can be adjusted to accept a 26mm knot.

If you prefer a larger knot, submitted for your approval (I must be channeling Rod Serling today) is the Alternate Jade brush shown below.

Jade is found in many colors ranging from a dark green to almost white. Jade often has veins or streaks running through it from various mineral deposits. In natural Jade, some of these patterns are considered particularly valuable. This Alternate Jade is made of a polyester resin imported from Europe.

The knot is a 30mm Manchurian White Fan, which measures about 33mm as it exits the handle. The loft is 55mm.

This brush is listed and available on my site at http://www.eliterazor.com

My thoughts go out to everyone that was impacted by the recent storms. We only received a glancing blow from Irma and were fortunate to have only lost power for a day.

I have been finishing up some custom orders, but did have a chance to finish a couple of brushes over the weekend.

These brushes are available at http://www.eliterazor.com

Old Growth Poplar - The brush below is shown with a 24mm knot, but can be adjusted to accept a 26mm knot. It was built from a piece of Poplar that was reclaimed during the deconstruction of the Acworth Train Depot, which was built in 1840. This wood is over 175 years old.

I just received a shipment of knots. I have been out of the 26mm bulbs for a couple of weeks and am now well stocked. For those of you who like a larger knot, I did receive a couple of 30mm Manchurian Whites in both Fan and Bulb. As with all my knots, they are very dense and measure just over 32mm as they exit the handle. I only have a couple and they are not listed on my site. If you are interested, please PM or email me.

This perfect Halloween brush is a real treat. The resin was a custom pour and this is a definite "one of a kind"

The brush handle shown below was made from a custom resin pour. The transparent base with bits of glitter give it a very unique presentation. It is shown with a 26mm Manchurian White knot. This brush is available on my site at http://www.eliterazor.com.

To paraphrase from Forrest Gump, "Resin is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get."
I wasn't too excited about this block of resin as it sat on my bench, but when I finally got around to turning it, I was astounded at what was inside. I'm afraid it is impossible to capture the depth of this piece in a picture. This one's a beauty.

This brush has been listed and is available at http://www.eliterazor.com.

In addition to custom shaving equipment, I also make the occasional pen. This is a collection of stone pens I have just completed and are available on my site at http://www.eliterazor.com. From left to right, they are made of Blue Lapis, Black Onyx, Bloody Basin Jasper and Copper Laced Onyx.

The fittings are either Titanium Gold or Platinum.

I recently acquired a nice selection of blocks that are a combination of wood and contrasting resins. They go by the name of Shokwood. They are commercially available in a size that will only allow 24mm knots or 26mm in some handle styles. I have just completed the finishing on the group of 10 blocks I acquired and they are shown below. I will be taking individual pictures and listing them on my site over the next couple of days.

I do have the opportunity to custom order these blanks in larger sizes to accommodate the larger knots and full range of handle styles.

As you can see from the pictures below, the color combinations are pretty extensive, including both transparent and opaque resins.

I would truly appreciate it if you could reply to this thread and let me know your favorite one or two color combinations and if there is an interest in the larger sizes. It will help me with my next order.

Hey Bob. They all look great. My favorite in the top group is the Sea Green. Kansas Sky would be #2. In the second group my favorite is Stormy Ocean. I have one of your faux horn handles with a 26mm Manchurian White knot. It is perfect at 26mm, so I would not ask for a larger size than what you have.
