What's new

EJ Best badger, Semogue 2020 or another

Looking for my first...er...second brush.

My first first brush I bought not knowing ANYTHING. My canned foam was confiscated at airport security and I was left looking for a shaving alternative while in the airport. Found an Omega boar brush (don't know the number) and it came with some cream.

Anyway, after a long learning curve, lots of research, I'm actually using it and I don't mind it BUT I'm still using my cartridges for now.

I will be getting a EJ DE.89L or chatsworth.

But for a brush...here's what I'm thinking.
Best Badger - I don't want something super soft as I've got used to the stiffness of the boar and kind of like it.

Strictly creams...using Kiss My Face because I can find it and it's affordable.

I use a bowl...well...a mug.

For my next brush - I`m hoping for a slightly shorter handle - as the Omega I have is quite large. Also...I lose a bristle or two every week or two. So, better quality in general. I like the ivory look...or horn. If it`s wood...then dark wood or very light (maple) but no oak - the grain is too pronounced.

Budget...Um...under $100. Ideally...$50 or under.

Thinking a medium sized brush all around which is why I`m looking at either this:
EJ Best badger shaving brush

or this:
Semogue 2020 - unfortunately, I don`t like the handle material but love the shape.

Any other brushes I should consider

I highly recommend:

Semogue 2030 in mixed (mostly pure) for $40 plus shipping at: http://www.shavingessentials.biz/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=75&products_id=376. It is reviewed here: http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showthread.php?t=123584.

EJ Bulbous Richmond in best on sale for $106 plus shipping at http://www.theenglishshavingcompany...win~Jagger~@c~@b~@r~All|120|user|1,0,0,1|214| However, if you are American or anywhere outside the UK (or EU, I guess), they will deduct the VAT tax and your total with shipping will be $98.

I have both of these and prefer them to my silvertip; they are firmer than the silvertip but softer than boar (I have several of these that I don't use any more). However, my experience is limited. There are many with great knowledge here in B&B who will, I am sure, respond to your question and be of more help.

Good luck :biggrin1:

If you put in the code JF515B at The English Shaving Company you will get an additional 15% off as long as you order before February 8th. The code can be used by anyone, so you're not breaking any T&Cs by using it.

I highly recommend a Rooney 1/1 in Best. It runs $55 but is well worth the extra cost. I use my Rooney 1/1 in Super ($75) with creams and in a bowl, and it really does a great job massaging the skin rather than scrubbing my face off like some other brushes...

The EJ Best Badger is a wonderful starter brush. You might want to look at the Vulfix brushes. They sell a good brush at a reasonable price.
