I'm wondering if there are any razors that are efficient yet not aggressive? More towards the mild scale? Or does aggressive and efficient always go together?
The 37C used to be known as a very very aggressive razor back in the early days of B&B.Aggression and efficiency does tend to be closely linked. However, with some razors that aggression/efficiency relationship is more distant.
For example the Merkur 37C (a slant) is extremely smooth, extremely comfortable, very easy to use and rather mild. Despite these characteristics it is also rather efficient.
I'm trying to sell my Fatip Piccolo, it's an insane razor, every time I try to shave it cuts my face up like crazy. And this is the V2, I think... YMMV of course. It's a shame though I really like the look and feel (in the hand, not on the face) of it.This is kind of YMMV but I would place the fatip piccolo in this category.
The blade is held rigidly, the design of the cap and comb feels like a one piece and the low gap makes it even more comfortable.
Its efficiency is way higher than the blade feel.
I'm definitely planning on getting an overlander, whenever they come back at made and ready to sell.2nded Muehle R89. Also the Karve Overlander.
I'm on the waiting list for the athena... I can't wait to try it out.The Athena is my best example of mild, but efficient. Many here find the same. It is almost magic how efficient it is given how smooth and not prone to biting.
I've got others that are mild but efficient - the Henson aggressive (and even the medium), the Tatara combinations are all far more efficient than their specs would say. But the Athena is moreso.
I'm definitely interested in trying out some vintage in the future. I have the Henson +++ but when going against the grain it's a mess for me. Not sure why. I might try the medium version in the future...Gillette tech
Gillette Super Speed (either flare tip or earlier models, blue tip is mild)
Muhle R89
Edwin Jagger DE 89
Merkur 34C
Henson AL13 may be the best of the bunch, I’d get the ++, skip the + version
Wow, that’s weird. Goes to show how personal this is.I'm trying to sell my Fatip Piccolo, it's an insane razor, every time I try to shave it cuts my face up like crazy. And this is the V2, I think... I bought it off of amazon last year, so unless it's a NOS v1, it's probably a v2.Wow, that’s weird. Goes to show how personal this is.
Are you sure it’s the v2?
I find the piccolo so smooth and gentle.
The comb and top cap design are so slim against each other together with the tightly clamped blade that it feels like the blade isn’t even there.
Being so cheap, I’d buy another one just to rule out any defect.
Another thing, it works better with sharper blades, BICs and such.
Love the 6s and those plates.Rockwell 6s using plates 4 - 6.
