The screw that attached the top piece to the handle of my EJ DE89 razor broke off today, so the handle will no longer attach to the head. Anyone aware of DIY fixes or the availability of replacement parts? It's only 3 months old.
That is a bummer, I worry about the DE89 I have as well, I have a Gillette Pre-war Fat Handle Tech that I prefer more and I feel it will outlast the DE89. The more I experiment with razors the more I keep going back to the oldies: Gillette Tech, Gillette Flare Tip Super Speed, and Gillette Short Comb New...
i would think after only 3 months of use they would give you a replacement, from what i hear they will do that, edwin jagger have a pretty good name, they will not want that going down the pan.
the new de razors look the part for sure, but no way will they last like the vintage razors, some of the vintage razors are over 100 years old, with a bit of elbow grease and tlc they can look like the day they were made, thats why i like vintage, some of them will last a couple of lifetimes and are built like tanks, they just dont make them like that anymore, unless the are stainless steel.
Unfortunately, this is seen with some regularity. I doubt there's any way to really fix it. The heads are made of a zinc allow that's not going to be something you can solder well. I wouldn't trust epoxy either, given the small surface area. You'll probably need to try to get a replacement from Muhle, or just get a new one (or maybe better..get a vintage razor that's made with brass).
If it is not your fault (over pressure) ask for a replacement.
About epoxy i have try it in the past but never worked
If the screw is broken or damaged can not replace it
The only thing you can do it to make a "conversion"
Same thing just happened to me - after only 1 month! My first DE shaver...
Without drilling out the handle, re-tapping the thread and installing a new post, it's screwed.
I'm asking RoyalShave for a replacement, but after that experience, and seeing these threads of people with the same problem, does anyone have any suggestions on a STURDIER razor for people with very sensitive skin?
