Edge on New Razor

Any new razor I have acquired has either been honed by the vendor (TSS), by a honemeister here on the list (did that twice), or by me once I figured out what I was doing.

Usually my procedure was to glass the blade and reset the bevel. Then using a coti or series of Synthetic stones, I would create a new edge.

My recent acquisition of a 7/8 TI came out of the box with an edge that passed the HTT (1)..REALLY!!. I don't feel the need to go back to square one with this blade. What does the collective wisdom say is the best/most efficient way to fine tune this razor?

My thoughts were-
-Naniwa 5k ss-about 100 circular strokes followed by 15 x strokes (each side). Repeat 2 or 3 times
-Naniwa 8k ss-same
-Naniwa 12k ss 50 circular strokes followed by 15 x strokes per side

Maybe 20-25 light x strokes on the Welsh slate

The coticule is always an option too. Any advice???

Ask me about shaving naked!
If it's doing HHT 1, I'd probably Sharpie the bevel, give it one or two strokes per side on the 8K or coticule. If the stone's hitting the edge everywhere, I don't think you need to go back to 5K. If it's wonky, start at 5K if it isn't bad, and I'm assuming it isn't.

The rest of the regimen sounds pretty good.

Cheers, Steve

If it were me, I'd do 30-50 strokes on the coticule with water only and go from there.

Cheers, sir. That's a beautiful blade.

Of the 4 new TI razors I have purchased, only one was honed by the vendor (Classic Edge) and had a fair amount of hone wear and so I guess Phil did more than a touchup. One (from Rasurpur) was excellent, but I believe Martin gave it a few licks on a diamond strop. When I honed that one, it was far from flat hone geometry. One was dull like a butter knife and needed the DMT 600 to set the bevel. The 4th one was Harsh with a capital H and also required significant work to set the bevel.
I know my experience is not typical, but I would do as Steve says and try a Sharpie test first.

Was no need to put it on the 5k. Gave it a couple hundred strokes on the Naniwa 8k, followed with about 50 on the Naniwa 12k. Finest kind. May take it to the Welsh slate but I'm thinking that might be redundant.

In all great shaver. Excellent heft and balance. Ergonomics are superb. If the. Hart Steel is the 1911 of straight razors, it may be said the TI Blades Grim is the Beretta M9. I like it.

I prefer the purple slate edge over the nani 12k, just my personal thing.
