What's new

EBay

Just won an auction and got a steal on a nice British Aristocrat. However the seller is trying to add a 10 pound fee on top of the shipping which was I was not informed of or in the details. I have yet to pay and asked him about it but haven't gotten a reply yet. If he doesn't remove the fee what should I do?

That's tough. What is the link to the auction? It's hard to comment when we can't see the exact rules of your auction.

If you got a "steal" on that British Aristocrat, just pay it, leave negative feedback and don't deal with that seller again. You still come ahead if you got it at a great price. Also make sure on the post for any international shipping fees.

This one.

I'm not going to post a link until the matter is resolved. It could just have been an error on his part, so I don't want to jump to conclusions. I appreciate everyones suggestions...

When I first heard this it sounded like a greedy move on the seller's part but shipping internationally is a pain. I normally add about $5-10 for more expensive items on ebay when shipped internationally but put in in the price of shipping. Customs forms, having to go to a PO rather than being able to drop off at Fedex or UPS, etc. I'm sure they have similar issues in the UK. I'd take issue, try to settle in the middle then pay the man :)

You can print customs forms online at usps.com. You can arrange for free pickup at your house or business-there is no need to go to the post office to ship international.

The International "Signed For" or Airsure, which are the two methods that are required by Paypal to show delivery confirmation to ensure seller protection is about 11-15 pounds for your razor (200-500g, up to 50 pounds value). I don't know what total price he is asking, but if close to that bear that in mind.

Also, I have had potential UK sellers say they won't sell to North America anymore because of problems like this where they had to take a loss on shipping....

i disagree with international shipping being more expensive, or a hastle. especially is you use paypal. i can ship a razor, from canada to the us or international for about $7.50. i can do the declaration right there, print the shipping label, and drop it at any postal outlet. the same razor shipped to a canadian address is about $12 - $14 (depending on where it's heading) . it's cheaper for me to send out of my own country............now that's inconvient!

Jake, I have often sold items over $1000 which would not be good candidates to leave out for pickup. Good on you if that's not a problem for you. Customs forms take time online or at the PO and time is valuable.

I live in a pretty safe neighborhood and put the packages inside my front screen door. I put instructions to the carrier regarding the location. I ship custom knives that are worth over $1K pretty regularly.
