eBay Vendor Practices

I needed to vent here. Is anyone else getting tired of the eBay vendor practice - not all the time, but more than I, for one, would like - of selling razors with rusty blades left in them? Just got a handful of razors with this and, to top it off, rusty blades loose in the boxes, falling out as I open them. I feel the need to wear hazmat gloves when I buy from some of these vendors - this practice of leaving the blades in is frustrating to me on a number of levels, the danger of slicing my thumb as I open the box one of them. At least, maybe, they could note that the blades from 1938 are still in razor, etc. I suppose I'm the one to blame: but a lot of time, I can't even see the blades in the pictures (even though now I make a strong point to look closely, a lot of the times it's just not visible). From now on, I'm going to first ask before I buy, I guess, which seems like the only way to combat this dangerous and annoying problem. That or buy here solely on B/S/T.

Anyone else find this frustrating?

Nope.
I know that if the person I bought from had any idea what he was doing, I wouldn't be getting the deals I get. I love it when they don't even bother to clean the razor or take decent pics. My pet peeve is inadequate packaging.

Its annoying fore sure, and it damage the razor most of the time, leaving rust inside the head.
But i guess that some sellers think the razor should be leaved the way they found it. Maybe they even think that the blade is not supposed to be changed...

I just bought two razors from the flea market and they all had blades in them. I have also bought from people who when showing me the razor have cut themselves. Unless you buy a restored or advertised as clean razor, I don;t expect the seller to remove them. Some people collect blades. Just my 2c.

Forgot to add - in some cases, it's been very helpful to have an old rusty blade left in it. In the case of razors that take special blades, it makes modding a new blade to fit much easier.

I think some of the vendors can't even figure out how to remove the blades, especially with injectors.

I got one Gem 1912 that not only had the SE blade still in it, but had a thick layer of dried hair under that. That razor got scrubbed a little extra hard, and spent some extra time in the barbicide.

Now I just assume that there will be a blade in there, and am very careful opening the box. Every now and then there is an interesting looking, non-rusted, vintage blade in there, and I store them separately, as curiosities.

Everyone knows that collectibles are worth a lot more when they come with original packaging and accessories, everyone has heard stories of people 'cleaning up' an old item and destroying it's value to collectors, and not everyone selling razors is an an expert in them.

+1

You see that all the time, when dealing on the Bay.
Lots of sellers selling things that they do not know about.
And the more seasoned ones play it safe. Let the buyer clean it up.

Just think of all the hobbies including vintages where you completely destroy an item if you clean it, think coins, furniture & so on.

Just assume it will be a blade in there & play it safe when you open the package. A box of disposable rubber gloves wont set you back many $ & is a good investment when buying things regularly of da Bay.

By the time you get an Ebay razor it more or less has been abandoned for decades as it is. I agree that people don't know how to remove the blades or even care to know how to.
Hopefully to the seller these are pieces of junk they want to dump which means they do not know the true value and your getting a deal as a result.

Very true. I saw a razor on ebay the other day where the used blade was actually showcased, having it's own picture.

i'd rather find them in a very "used" state. So many people can potentially damage razors by boiling, using harsh chemicals, and so forth.

Just my $0.02:biggrin1:
