Ebay authenticity question on vintage blades

How much can you assume? I'm seeing quite a few Bokers with the King Cutter designation on the blade itself, and was thinking about bidding. I know there is all sorts of fakes on Ebay with brand names (Leica being a great example), but it seems like with razors, there just isn't enough money in it to fake them.

Can some of the more experienced guys maybe clue me in to what to look for on vintage blades with a brand name? What to look for when trying to spot a fraud?

You won't come across fakes. What you will come across are basketcase razors skillfully sanded, polished and buffed, and then photographed at just the right angle to hide defects and whatnot.

eBay is a gamble at best, and experience is needed to weed out the good from bad. How deep are you into the straight razor hobby?

Boker was one of the most popular brands sold in the states back in the day, this might explain why there are a lot of them on the bay. Look carefully at the sellers history and rating. Ask any clarifying questions and extra photos if you wish. Personally, I only buy nos or mint razors and I am very picky to avoid any disappointments. Good luck.

Also lots of 'new' razors that are absolute crap

Especially the ones that look super fancy. If it is Damascus, with exotic bone scales, and mosaic pins... It should be costing over a grand. There are no bargains to be had on that sort of thing. If you see something like that on ebay and you think "wow, that is actually really affordable" it won't shave worth a damn.

Could not have said it better.

Thanks for the feedback. Like I said, I was looking at Bokers and it seemed like there were a lot of them labeled King Cutter, and I wanted to be sure Bokers were likely to be Bokers. I bid on one fairly cheap, so we'll see how it goes.

I'm in deep enough to the hobby that I can see that I need another razor (especially since I dropped my razor this morning and put a microscopic nick in the end of the blade). My wife offered to buy me stuff for Xmas, but I feel like razors are something I'll stick to picking out.
