Eau Sauvage cologne

Just received my bottle today and wondered what you gentlemen thougt of this classic fragrance. At first meeting, it reminds me of a Givenchy scent, maybe monsieur, but I still have some wearing to do. This is part of my classic fragrance phase, and I thought this '66 from Dior might be a good masculine scent.

Love it. Unlike many fragrances with citrus notes, I think this one is very well balanced and reasonably long-lasting on me. Opens up with a citrus and slightly herbal bang, then the citrus notes mellow and dry down to a wonderful earthy scent. I now know why it's been around so long!

Classic, is what I think of it. The smell of a life filled with yachting, country clubs, Mercedes and Golden Retrievers. The good life.

It comes about as close to "perfect" as it gets when it comes to fragrances. Really remarkable stuff in every sense of the word.

Unfortunately, it doesn't last long at all on me.

I love Eau Sauvage. I think it is very similar to Monsieur de Givenchy. Both are fantastic fragrances.

Eau Sauvage is one of the two fragrances that I currently wear. I've been wearing this for about 20 years now! Created the year I was born, I think Eau Sauvage is one of the most unique fragrances out there; nothing currently on the market smells like it in any way! I find that it tends to fizzle out quickly in terms of longevity....a couple hours...and the scent is gone. It's still an amazing scent though!

If you like Eau Sauvage, you owe it to yourself to try Hermes Eau D'Orange Verte as well; that's the other fragrance I wear....It doesn't last long either, but it's another amazing citrus scent!

I was curious if Penhalion BB or D R Harris are similar citrus fragrances.....

I have Eau d'Orange Vert and I don't think it's much like Eau Sauvage, at least from what I remember of it, it's been a while.

Eau d'Hermes is a nice choice as it was created by the same perfumer as Eau Sauvage.

Frederic Malle's Bigarade Concentree is very similar. I wrote a long review for basenotes that got lost in a techno-glitch, but I called it "Eau d'Hermes lite" as it opens with some very ripe, bitter, citrus peel and then a cumin note appears. As it dries down you get a feel of the cirtus peel smashed into a fresh cedar block.

It's a fairly minimalist scent, with not much happening, but it's a great summer citrus. I actually think it's better than Eau d'Orange Vert for that role

I wasn't meaing to imply that Eau D'Orange Vert smells similar to Eau Sauvage; they are two totally different scents. I just thought that if you like one, you may like the other simply because they are both citrus scents. Another old classic citrus cologne that is no longer available...but one that I really liked is the originaly YSL by Yves St. Laurent. Now that was one sweet citrus that was amazing....citrus opening notes with a spicey aftermath.

I have never heard of Malle before. I'll have to look for it as well as the Eau D'Hermes (as well as the previously mentioned Givenchy). I'm hooked on citrus!

Began wearing it in the early 60s; quality product from a quality organization confirming that quality/good taste are never "out". Class/style outlive fashion/fashionable.

I really enjoy that one...for the 20 minutes it lasts...

Well, if one takes the bottle, and then affixes it diectly to ones nostille, then kicks back ones head quickly and then back again, there may be a little scent to be enjoyed! :biggrin1: No kidding, it is a great scent, which you will hardly actually smell! What is the point?

For me I get a couple of good hours. It lasts longer than Eau d'Orange Verte, though. After maybe 2.5 hours its projection dies down to basically nil and it's just a really expensive skin scent. I think it does best in high temps, I've never worn it in temps below 80*F so maybe that's why I found the longevity passable.
