E-4 Fatboy disassembly

I think I may have a problem. I attempted disassembly of my E-4 Fattboy today to take it to be replated, and I can't get the TTO knob to separate from the main shaft. Will this be a problem for the plating company? I never intended to do any disassembly of it but the plating company insisted they would not plate it if it is assembled. I'm in the dark here, can anyone help? I have the rest of it already taken apart.

I would have called them, but it was after hours when I finished disassembling it is there a way to remove the TTO knob from the main shaft? I found a video on utube about taking apart a Fatboy but my model is different than the one in the video. By the way, thanks for responding.

Why are you disassembling the Fatboy? You don't need to do that to have it re-plated. Your just looking for trouble that way. Had mine done in Rhodium looks fantastic.

What year is your Fatboy? There is only one Fatboy that cant really be taking apart that easy.
if your razor dont have 2 pin holes (1959) then you cant really take it apart with out damaging it.

My Fatboy is a 1959 fourth quarter. I've got it nearly completely disassembled except for the TTO knob. I can't seem to remove it from the main handle shaft. I guess I'll leave it like that till I go to the plating company and see if it is OK the way it is. Thank you Alex.

You can use a wood dowel rod to get it off the shaft. Of course you will have to go to home depot etc. Walmart may carry them also. I actually used a Phillips screw driver to do mine. BUT ..... It will come apart ! It just rides in a circular groove.

Have you tried to just grabbing the main shaft & tto knob & just PULLING it apart while your working it ?

It may break, after years or wear and its made from brass which is not strong.

IDK who you are using but from my experience most plating companies (Reliable Electroplating, onotoman here @ B&B) including Gillette plated these razors in one piece fully assembled.

No not normal. Ontoman plates razors. Send it to him. Gillette seems to have plated their razors once they were assembled.

Thanks for all your responses gentlemen, I have sent a message to Onotoman about reassembling and plating this razor. Thanks for telling me about him.

I sent Dave (Onotoman) my sentimental fav 1912 Gem and few other razors, he is fast and very highly recommended by our members.

Thanks for that link about disassembly Alex2363 ! It helped me reverse engenier my mistakes and get my Fatboy back together. I thought I screwed up bad when I read at the end of that tutorial " if you took this apart you probably won't get it put back together" because ...... I took it apart! But the gods of the Traditional Shaving Kingdom were smiling upon my endeavor , along with Alex's help, and , Tah-Daaa, my Fatboy once again resides in my shave den. I think I'll just forget about replating it , I damaged the knurling too much for me to spend any money on it. Anyway thanks again my friend, and everyone for your input. Have a good night!
