Durability issue with Edwin Jagger DE89?

I saw in another post that a B&B Member was looking for a replacement razor to their DE89 after only a year and a half due to the threads wearing out.

Since I am also a relatively new owner of this particular item, and have been enjoying my experience with it, I'd like to solicit input from more experienced owners...

Has the durability of this razor been an issue? I hope not, because I'd hoped it would be a 10++ year piece of equipment, and it seems to be an extremely popular item based on word of mouth...anyone have some feedback?

There is probably a human element. I haven't had a problem yet. Also, I lubricate the threads with Ivory soap.

Regardless, for me, if I have to get another in a couple years, I will, and I'll be even more careful with the threads. I like the razor that much.

I have had one for 3 years an use it for about 70% of my shaves. No issues yet. If it goes belly up I will buy a new one

I have been using mine for a little less than a year, and it is perfectly fine. I use it about 80% of the time.

I have never heard of the threads wearing out, but I have heard numerous stories of the stud on the head breaking off, either due to a fall, or overtightening of the handle.

Rbthum - this is the thread that got me concerned....I thought it strange that the threads would wear out as well

Ah, yes. My thread (no pun intended).

The threads really did get worn out after a year and a half. Whether that's from bad treatment or quality, I'm not sure, but my Gillette Techs show no signs of similar wearing. Here's a picture. Sorry it's blurry, but I don't have a macro lens that shoots that well close-up.

Don't get me wrong, this is an amazing razor. It shaves like a dream (at least I think so), but I was surprised that a razor held in such high esteem had this problem so soon. Of course, I did email EJ, and for all I know, they'll offer to replace it or something. We shall see. Even if the quality wasn't perfect on this one, doesn't mean others aren't better.

I had a similar thing happen to mine after 3 years of use as my only razor. In my situation, the threads became galled, preventing me from unscrewing the head from the handle. I was extra vigilant in assembly the razor so I was very surprised (and disappointed) when it occurred. I went with another brand as a replacement (Merkur HD).
