For soft creams, I'll just squeeze some into a brush and face lather. For thicker creams I might use fingers to apply to my face and then face lather, or just bowl lather slowly adding water to make it well hydrated.
^^This^^I used to just place some shaving cream on the wet brush and then hit my face. Same when I was using canned creams and foams, place some on a wet brush and then go to town.
Over the past month I have abandoned my beautiful Captain's Choice aquamarine bowl, and have been face lathering my TOBS creams and hard soaps by loading my wet brush and creating the lather on my beard/face.
So...what is the technique for face lathering cream (like Tabac and Proraso) in a tube?...smear it on your face and lather with a wet brush?...squeeze a dollop onto the wet brush and face lather?
Curious about the methods you all use.

What shaving brushes in indian barbershops ?
Hi guys, I made sone researches but I cannot find what type of shaving brush do india barbers use. It seems to be very floppy brushes (synthetic, goat hair, human hair ???) I also cannot find any website that sell those kind of brushes. Do you have any idea ? :) see an example here :www.badgerandblade.com
Thanks, I saw that the other day. Pretty amazing skills by the barber, and I was shocked by the amount of lather he got from that dab of cream.
Hi Gpjoe, See the instructions on the label of the vintage jar of Noxema shaving cream @malocchio posted in the thread via the link below. Cream was for the Barber Trade (4 pound jar!). Instructions were to massage in the cream and then lather it (I interpret as face lathering) for your shave. Plan to try this with one of my creams on my next shave. Thought, per your original post, that you would also be interested.Over the past month I have abandoned my beautiful Captain's Choice aquamarine bowl, and have been face lathering my TOBS creams and hard soaps by loading my wet brush and creating the lather on my beard/face.

P.S. Will try this with my LEA Mentholata that is the closest thing I have to the medicated Noxema.

Yes.... you can use it right out of the tube, applied to a freshly washed face, and don't use too much, a little goes a long way . You can also put a dollop into a mug and work up a nice lather to be applied by brush .Over the past month I have abandoned my beautiful Captain's Choice aquamarine bowl, and have been face lathering my TOBS creams and hard soaps by loading my wet brush and creating the lather on my beard/face.

I highly approve of this method, which has successfully passed the test of time. There's more than one way to skin the cat.
The old Italian barber technique is to put a blob of shaving cream into the middle of your damp brush knot and work the cream into the knot a bit with your fingers. Spread the cream that's left on your hand onto the face, then start face lathering with the brush. Add a bit of water to the brush two or three times to get the right lather consistency.
