Duke 2 Brush Burn :(

I am almost certainly positive my Duke 2 gives me brush burn, and redness. I used TOBS Avocado, Red Tip/Astra SP, and The Duke for one whole week. Burn and irritation every day. Then I used the exact same stuff except the brush. I used my Semogue 620...ZERO burn or irritation. This is not good! :(

I think you should get rid of that nasty brush. And, it just so happens that I will gladly take care of it for you.

Your duke 2 best is noticeably more rough than a semogue 620??? I've used both and this is difficult to imagine. My duke and every other simpson best I've tried are very comfortable while the 620 was almost too scritchy/prickly for me to use.

Wait, maybe I need clarification. Is the brush itself feeling harsh on your skin or are you saying that you are just more irritated after the shave? Maybe you are making better lather with the semogue because that's what you're used to. Maybe you haven't figured out the duke yet or it needs to break in still.

Is it a Duke 2 in Best Badger or Pure Badger? I have Duke Ones, both in best and in pure, and the pure is a very mean beast. Gave me awful lot of brush burn until I treated it on wet sandpaper. IMHO the Dukes are too densely packed for pure badger hair.

My Duke 2 was really prickly for about 2 weeks when I got it. Then it really softened up. It has the softest tips of any brush I own. Maybe try bowl lathering for a week or so and see if things improve. That's what I did.

I have noticed that no matter how scrubby boars are, they just are easier on the face. Weird, the amazing power of the boar!

How does one treat a scritchy badger with wet sandpaper?

I have a newer Duke 2 best and an older Duke 3 best and the Duke 2 is noticeably more scritchy. The hair color is different too. I think the older brushes are softer.

i think i had the same thing last night. i went to re-apply some lather for a second pass and thought i used gasoline! i thought maybe it was my brush, it's just a little pure bagger

I'm also still waiting for a reply to this.

Simple. Put the sandpaper (not too course, not below 250 or so) on a table and use the wet brush as if you want to make lather. Do this for 5 minutes and try the brush then. Still too scritchy? Repeat the procedure. Of course you can try this with soap, too.
