Dublin, Ireland - Where to shop shaving supplies from - Online/Offline

Hello good people,

I will be traveling to Dublin, Ireland in a few weeks time. Can you please suggest some shave supplies shops- specifically looking for the followings:
1) Fatip
2) Myrsol Pre/Post emulsions
3) Epsilons/Floids aftershave splashes (alcohol)
4) Stirling soaps / and other US aritisnal soaps
5) Phoenix and Beau soaps

Also any other hardware/software which you may want me to specifically look when I am there?

Thanks as aways,

Harish

I think what he meant was that he cleared out the entire Irish inventory.

What??? :w00t:
You mean he bought all three Mühles and all four tubs of Proraso Green?? :001_cool:

Seriously, not being a specialist in all things Irish there is not much that springs to my mind, but several times I have come across the Fine Shaving Products for a Smoother Closer Shave - Shaving.ie - https://www.shaving.ie/ online shop based in an industrial estate in Dun Laoghaire, Co. Dublin.

For Brick & Mortar stores in Dublin, one might try Knights of the Green (106, Stephens Green Shopping Centre, Dublin 2) or Manly Stuff (10 Dame Ct, Dublin 2).

Admittedly of not much help to the OP, I also have the impression that after Brexit some British goods (e.g. D.R. Harris) destined for the EU are now shipped from Ireland. Having a central warehouse in an EU member state like Ireland could make distribution within the EU easier.

I would not wish to insult my Irish friends who have a wicked sense of humour and make some outstanding whiskey…:thumbup1:

Good luck,

B.

@lasta @Brutus i was really hopefully that I will be able to have my cart full of shaving goodies (given that we get hardly anything here in India - talk about globalization, one market, etc).

Quite aware of Shaving.ie, but they don't carry the European wonders - myrsol, zenith, floids etc. I will anyways check the brick and mortar stores to see what they have got. Just a quick question, and if anyone can help - if i buy from any of the Europe based stores, Yourshaving, Giftsandcare, and get it shipped to my hotel in Dublin, will i need to pay any customs/duties/levies?
I think this can be a workaround.

Appreciate your reverts,

Harish

VAT, but no duties. I think most of the continental Europe sites have VAT included prices.

BTW, plenty of good stuff from India! Gillette Wilkinson Swords, and beautiful new razors handles from Pearl.

I can get their whiskey as an aftershave :))

@Old School TSD I will be going to Dublin next month. Maybe I can continue from where you left, if I know the places to shop :)
I can't recall the name's of places I went tbh. We sated in the heart of Temple Bar area and there were a couple of small antique shops that had a few straights and some brushes. We did the hop on and off bus tour and I spotted a couple shops as well. Hope you do better than I did!

Because so many excellent shaving products are made in Europe, a lot of shavers from outside Europe may arrive in Europe with the misguided notion that every European drugstore has a broad selection of shaving goods and that every large town has at least one shop specialising in shaving goods.
This is about as true as the notion that every German wears lederhosen and drinks beer, every Frenchman wears a beret and drinks wine, and every Dutch lady walks about in wooden clogs carrying buckets of milk to make cheese from. :sneaky2:

The truth is that while the choice of European products in European drugstores may be broader than for example in North American drugstores and that near Piccadilly Circus in London there is remarkable cluster of shaving shops, the broadest selection of shaving goods is most likely available online, keeping also in mind that the international embargo on shipping items containing alcohol does not apply for shipments within the EU.

Based on the above and looking at your list, the most sensible and promising approach might therefore be to go to a trustworthy online shop (e.g. ▷Tienda de afeitado clásico | Descubre Gifts&Care - http://giftsandcare.com/) place an order there and have it shipped to the address in Ireland that you will be staying at. There is no added duty or Customs delay for shipments within the EU. Instead of the VAT in the country of purchase (e.g 21% in Spain), your invoice may be based on the VAT applicable in the country of destination (e.g 23% in Ireland).

IMO hoping to find a shop in Dublin (pop. 588,000) that stocks Myrsol, Epsilon, Stirling, and Phoenix and Beau is just hoping for a little bit too much.

Again; good luck. 🤞

Thanks @Brutus , I guess thats the best way to get around this problem. I get hit by massive customs every time I order from outside the country. Atleast this way, although i pay some VAT, I am saved from the unpredictable customs.

Regarding Dublin's population, I am from Bangalore, India and we got 40x more people here, maybe in the same sq kilometer :)

There is nothing in Dublin to compare with Jermyn St or Mayfair in London. The only shaving products I've bought in Ireland were Palmolive and Wilkinson Sword soap sticks, neither of which are really available any longer, and Pashana aftershave, which is still easily attainable nearly everywhere. I travel to Ireland at least twice a year. I always bought 6 or 8 soap sticks and brought them home with me, which means I now have more Palmolive than you can shake a stick at (see what I did there?).

@Owen Bawn breaks my heart. So near to the european goodies, yet so far.

@Brutus just spoke to giftsandcare, they said they can ship stuff, including alcoholic aftershaves to Dublin, but were not sure of the customs. Anyway to double check on the customs part?

No customs. Spain and the Irish Free State are both EU members. Northern Ireland is a different story since Brexit. You will pay value added tax, however.

Dublin is in Ireland.
Ireland is in the EU.
The EU is a common market, which means no import duties.

The only difference is that instead of the 21% Spanish VAT Gifts & Care should charge you the 23% Irish VAT on their invoice.

Regarding shipping products that contain alcohol within the EU, I too mentioned that in my previous reply.

I live in Dublin. There are very few shops with a decent selection that I have found. As @Brutus said above, knights barbers on Stephen's green is probably your best brick and mortar option. Manly stuff at 10 Dame Court is not a retail outlet. It might be the business address of the website, but there is no shop there. Grafton Barbers have their own range of soap which is very acceptable in my opinion. I think they are made in Italy, but the container just says made in the EU.

If you order from an EU state for delivery to your hotel, there will be no further customs, import duties or tax due.

Proraso can be found easily enough, some pharmacies also have old stock of Palmolive sticks for a couple of euro. If using DE, blades can be difficult to find, but again some pharmacies will have them. Boots typically have their own brand and Wilkinson Sword are not hard to find if you look.

US artisan soaps are impossible to get locally. Importing from Spain, the Netherlands or another EU country is your best bet in my opinion.

If you want carts or canned goo, you can find these in any supermarket, newsagent, or pharmacy. You will find carts are expensive though.
