Dubl Duck

This is a Dubl Duck M-2 brush.
I got it thinking I would restore it.
It looked better in the pictures in the auction.
When I got it and cleaned it up this is what I've got.
It looks like someone before me tried to clean it with a wire brush.
I got the marks buffed out somewhat.
I don't want to put any more time into if it's not fixable.
I would have gotten a RazoRock 400 if I had known how bad it was.
Still this is part of history.
I wonder how old it is.
So you can see this brush has been misused and abused.
I don't think it will be possible to restore it.
However I would like to reknot it.
I have a couple of badger knots ordered in 18mm and 23mm that should fit it.
Now for the tricky part...is it supposed to separate into two parts?
The problem is that I can't get the brush to separate into two parts if it is.
It looks like it should unscrew.
Has anybody tried to work on these brushes?
Does anyone have information on them?
Thanks Ron

Too Fugly For Free.
The top section should unscrew. It does look like that one has been rid hard and put up wet to dry.

Well I read everything and this is what I ended up with.
It is so far damaged now from me using strap wrenches on it to practically render it useless.
I didn't even know it until I was trying to get a better grip on it.
I am so disappointed now.
I'm done stick me with a fork.

Sorry. I should have made this statement first.

With these old tools (brushes, razors, etc...) do your best not to force anything.

Sorry about your lost treasure...

As they say "you lose some and you win some".
To this I have added "wreck some".
I'm going to shave with this brush until I get the knots in.
I will then decide what to do with it.
I've got too much $ into this brush to just bin the darn thing.
I also have an Ever Ready 1912 razor head that is missing the top cap that I have been wondering what to do with.
I believe that will be my shave for today.

I've tried to remove old knots from double ducks with no luck. They do not unscrew like the rubberset 400s but the top is crimped onto the bottom. I did get one separated but it trashed the brush. ☹️

Boy I wished I had that info sooner.
I'm still using it though.
When the knots get here I'm planning on changing it out.
I plan on drilling it out to get the new knot in.
I know that it won't be worth the knot I put in it to anyone but me.

Yep those walls are thin for sure.
I did not use that much pressure I thought.
I just don't want to bin it.
I used it for tonight's shave so it is still working.

Well I was not alone in creating this wonderful piece of art.
It is a piece of art to me at least.
It was really beat up when I got it.
I just enhanced it.
I'm thinking that because it is a professional model that is how it was used.
Like I said I am using it as is.
It made a wonderful mug of suds for an old boar brush for my shave last night.
So much so that I'm thinking that I will keep it as is.
Well not quite.
I cut the ends off because they had taken a hard set in one direction.
The ends were laying down so bad that I had to cut off about an inch.
It really is working well now.
It works as well as my synthetic brush.
