This is my first post in the straight guys section...
Other than seeing the great shots in the SOTD threads, I am near clueless when it comes to straights. About all I really know about them is that Dubl Ducks are quite well-liked here by B&B members. With that said, I know it is just a matter of time before I get into straights, so...
I visited my local antique store today and I was extremely surprised to see that they had a Dubl Duck Satinedge straight (actually, as I think back, it possibly could have been a Goldedge). The scales looked great, at least from my virgin eyes, but when I opened it up there was a front-tooth-sized chunk missing from the blade. So, I have to believe the blade is garbage, but are the scales of any value? I mean once I get into straights am I going to be kicking myself that I did not pick this Satinedge up so that I could use the scales in a restore project? What would the price point be to make this purchase worth it?
Well, any advice to this noob straight man will be appreciated.
