Dryin up!

For some reason my Proraso is drying very very fast on my face.... I almost don't have enough time to switch sides before it's dry and I have to re-lather....I have tried adding quite a bit of water and but then it almost gets too wet...I don't know If I need to try a different kind of soap or what? Suggestions????

How much cream are you using? And how much water? If I had to guess I would offer that perhaps you are not using enough product. Even if your product:water ration is correct, not using enough product will sink you.

I have a mug with water on standby when I shave. Just dip the tips to add a small amount at a time.

Proraso is a very easy soap to use and gives great results.

I have hundreds of shaves with this... You need more water - it happens to me when I'm in a hurry sometimes. Or if you take too long shaving, you can start to see drying around the lips.

And if adding more water makes it too runny, when, you need more product.

Next shave, use way too much product - double or triple what you're using now. Then, start dialing back until you get back to the sweet spot.

I'm using a almond size of the Proraso...I continuously dip my brush in the water but I guess it's just not enough cause literally I get done with one side of my face and it's already drying up pretty quick...thanks for all the tips guys...if you have anything else to help me let me know!

So are you actually building a lather (face, bowl or otherwise) or are you just applying the cream to your face?

Yes I'm using a bowl....to me it's the best way....but then again I don't know cause obviously my lather hasn't been quite right yet

The lathering method boils down to personal preference, so bowl lathering is just fine.

When you say it dries up, do you mean that it dries up into nothingness? Or that it dries into a powdery cream on your face?

I'm guessing a powdery cream....I can just tell it's drying cause the blade goes nowhere and I have to re-lather so I can shave smoothly....everyone says it's not enough water...but hell I thought at times I was putting too much water in... maybe not??

it would help if we had a pic but when you whip it up, how would you describe it: whipped cream, yogurt, mayonnaise, sour cream, ??? what brush are you using and for how long? soak the brush in warm water for 5 minutes and just let the water drip out, jumbo almond-sized snurdle in the bottom of the bowl and start whisking eggs for 2-3 minutes. you want the tips to hit the bottom of the and rub the brush along the sides of the bowl but you don't want to mash the brush down into the bowl - you want the brush tips to flex and see the streaks of them on the bottom but you're not trying to paint the bowl...

It happens to me too sometimes. I just can't get the right amount. Like no matter how much water I add to my neck, it still dries out. I usually end up having to relather my neck, so I try to speed it up to avoid having to do that.

I agree with the gents above. I think if you just explode the bowl with product and water, you'll see that you have enough wet slick lather to give you a proper shave. Once you see how much you have/use, cut back until you feel as if you're not wasting exorbitant amounts of lather. Heck, if your lather isn't excellent, you're wasting a shave regardless. So, you may as well perfect the lather using too much than too little, just until you get it down.
