Driving Gloves

Do any of you fine gents wear driving gloves?
I was thinking of getting a pair because I unfortunately have to park outside and so as the winter deepens here my car becomes quite cold. And gripping a cold steering wheel is not at all fun on a 45min drive in Atlanta traffic.
I was wondering if there was a certain brand or make that is recommended. I am hoping to not spend more than about 70 dollars, less is always better.

Thanks.

I don't think you'd really classify those as "driving gloves" - that's more like gloves you happen to wear when you are driving and it's cold.
When I hear the term Driving Gloves I picture the very thin goatskin gloves with holes in them for "breathing" worn by blondish type chisel featured guys driving a two seater with the top down.
Just grab yourself a decent pair of thinner type leather gloves with some Thinsulate insulation. I keep a pair in the center console up here near the Wisconsin / Illinois border.

Not to hijack and excuse my ignorance, but what is the purpose of driving gloves? Why not just use a regular pair of gloves?

Driving gloves were meant for grip of the steering wheel and stick shift. It was especially helpful in racing in all weather conditions.

I remember the last time I was driving in Atlanta in the winter. I had to roll up the window a little bit.

Yah. Us southerners do have it easy. But for me 32º is a little chilly. And i would say for most people that is cold. It may not be as cold as some places with temperatures below 0 but hey it is still cold.

I can sympathize with ya', Jswin, it's all in what you are used to. It gets cold enough down here that gloves are at least a less-than-ridiculous option. I haven't had a need for them, but I am not originally from the south either. On the other hand, just be glad you don't live anywhere where if you accidentally leave a can of coke in your car overnight, you discover what a horrible mistake that was the next morning (yes, it happened...once, never again) :scared: Nah, we'll take 32 degrees & wondering if we should buy a pair of gloves or not, eh?

A very large percentage of Japanese drivers wear gloves when driving (year round). Most are older (say over 40 years of age) and typically just wear thin cotton gloves. I can't for the life of me figure out why unless it is some sort of germophobe thing. They can't do anything for grip.

I believe it's to avoid hand tans.

I've been looking for a nice pair for years now; they don't seem to be as popular anymore.

When it gets nippy here i still don't wear gloves while driving. i like to feel my wheel at all times.... but i suppose nippy here is colder than GA's ever seen. today it hit 32F and i was outside playing with my son in shorts. after wind chills floating between -15 and -30 all last week, +32 feels like a heat wave, lol..

I wish I had gloves. It's getting into the teens at night lately (Texas is tricky!), and my car doesn't appreciate my attempts to warm it. I tend to drive with the windows down in all weather, though. Maybe I should stop. The wind can't get in my car if I have my windows up.

Or is that what it wants me to think ... ?

Been there, done that, lived around Rapid for 4 years. It is amazing how warm anything above 0 can feel come Jan-Feb, eh?

That's entirely possible though it doesn't make much sense in summer months when they are wearing short sleeves. Then they'd look like Mickey Mouse, dark arms with white hands.

It was explained to me by a Japanese lady that keeping your hands up under the windshield would cause your hands to darken at a different rate than the rest of your arms, which presumably would be less in the direct sunlight.

She could have been BS'ing whitey, I would never know!
