What's new

Dove Men+Care

Has anyone tried out any of these new products? I'm about out of body wash, and as much as I like bar soap, I hate scrubbing soapscum.

I need something VERY moisturizing for winter, so this may be the wrong path to take. Any thoughts?

I used to use Dove bar soaps, as recommended by a physician friend of mine, but after some investigation on B&B and TSD forums, I learned about glycerin soaps. I tried a Pear soap and a generic drugstore brand glycerin soaps right after and they both killed the dove soap after the first shower. Now, I use a C&E soap that is even better. It lathers a lot, it smells nice and does not make my skin itchy or dry. It's awesome. I can't believe I used to shower with AXE soap, it was a nightmare of itchy and dry skin.

There might be some good liquid body wash out there too, but I just don't use that kinda stuff.

At this point, I may end up going back to bar soaps. To me, they're much easier and more convenient, have less impact on the environment, and depending where you buy them, have fewer harsh chemicals than body washes. I guess 10 minutes of scrubbing soap scum is much better than a winter of dry, itchy skin.

I've been wanting to try out the new Dove men's line. I'm curious to see how it holds up. I got a coupon off their website and I plan on getting a bar or two this week.

I use my wife's dove soap sometimes. I also have a coupon for the new mens line that I will be buying this week. My local BJ'S wholesale club has a 10 pack with the bodywash all together in one bundle.

I looked at the ingredients for the body wash when I saw it in stores and was amused to see petrolatum included. In other words, you're showering with Vaseline soap.

You may have seen the recent Dove commercials talking about how most moisturizing body washes leave you feeling like you showered with your clothes on - i.e. they leave a film. Then Dove says their moisturizing body wash is different because its ingredients absorb into the skin rather than sit on top of it. The moisturizing ingredient found in other body washes that they're trashing? According to the fine print of their own ad, that's petrolatum.

The world of marketing will never cease to amuse me.

I tried and found it was not moisturizing at all. I thought it was just as harsh as dial bar soap.

Personally, I prefer soaps: easier to use, and the morning shower is quicker.

But I HATE soap scum; yeah I'm too lazy ot scrub scum every weekend.

The other problem with soap is that they have a tendnecy to clog my tub drain.

Having that said, Dove seems to be a good option

Dove's normal moisturizing body wash, not the men's line, is VERY moisturizing. I don't normally have dry skin, but I used that once and I could feel the added moisture.

Also got some curel itch defense for my girlfriend who suffers from eczema, so far so good as far as reduced scratching temptation.

I hate to promote these type products but I am on my 3rd bar and really happy with it. I got the extra fresh version. I lathers great, rinses fine, and leaves my skin feeling perfect especially in cold weather. For the price? it cant be beat. I paid $5.50 for 6 pack at Wal Mart which is on the higher end of value soaps but well worth it. I get ~18 uses out of each bar.

Does it leave soap scum?

I haven't tried the bars out yet, but the 4 pack was on sale for $3.38 at my local Target. The body wash was also marked down, as it looks like they're already phasing out the 13 oz bottles and going up to an 18.

Not that I notice. I have a fiberglass shower/tub also and dont notice any residue at all. Its not nearly as moisturizing as regular Dove either and lasts ALOT longer also. Entire different formulation and I actually enjoy the scent which is damn near impossible to explain but its masculine and typical......Gillette/ Axe.

Thanks

Free after sales tax and in store coupon good on next purchase at Walgreens starting Tomorrow (Sunday Feb 7) for one week ending Saturday Feb 13.

A quick report on the shower gel version...I lathered up with it in the shower today and found that it produces a very good lather with a shower poof thing (yes, that's a technical term!), it smells good, and moisturizes very well. I was using Old Spice shower gel before and found it to be a bit drying in the winter months.

I'd recommend it!
