Double Ring blade holders

I bought a 1905 double ring last week minus the blade holders and cannot find the blade holders anywhere but I found a local 1906 single ring that has what appear to be the same blade holders I am in need of. The 06 single ring blade holders have sharp on one and dull on the other are these also the correct holders for my double ring? Are there any other markings on the other sides or bottom of the blade holders for a double ring? I screwed up the other day and bought another single ring that has silver blade holders thinking they were correct for my double ring another big mistake made on my part.

Not that I'm an expert in this, but there seems to be subtle differences in the DR and early SR blade holders:

You can clearly see that the patterns at the beginning and end of the "DULL & "Sharp" words are different on the DR set compared to the early SR set. As long as you have an exact match with the blade containers in the DR set, then they'd be a match.

Also, pictures of your early SR set with the blade containers would help.

Thanks Kinge, I see the pattern difference. I do not have the early sr pics because I have not bought the razor yet. I might buy it tomorrow from a local shop to cheat complete the dr set. I have pretty much been able to find everything razor wise over the last few months but these blade holders are next to impossible to find. I thought a flea market vendor had a couple of sets of these but they ended up being for a German knock off dr as they were 1/4" longer than the case slot in the Gillette case.

Since they look to be made of paste board it's not too surprising they'd be nigh on impossible to find but could the differences be more to do with the local lithographers as I noticed the two examples from Mr Razor are Chicago and Boston (my SR is a NY like yours)so could there be subtle differences between locations?

I watched that curious of price and like what it went for, nice pickup and it will appreciate. I can tell it is a later mid model double ring with a serial number. I have tried to find some common sense with the blade boxes but there really are no typical patterns. There are "Sharp Dull" design litho's boxes in early DR sets and more plain boxes in later ones. It would be hard to tell if you replaced single ring boxes in a double ring sets, open cardboard silver screen type.

Simple text on the ribbon are typically older sets but they have had more ornate blade boxes when you would expect plain ones. One key to the early boxes is that the early ones are split in the middle. Meaning the top half or lid is the same size as the base. Later sets have less on the lid and more space on the bottom.

i bought this one recently and it doesnt have the "dull" and "sharp" boxes. my thought was that they werent the right boxes and the "gillette" script looks different so i dont even think the boxes match each other lol. that being said i have been told that gillette also just made work with what they had to a point. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vintage-1905-Gillette-Double-Ring-Razor-/261218237640?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEWNX%3AIT&nma=true&si=%252BR4KFw9kqrAhujgoLUbCCMZDbc0%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc

Yeah those are way later other wise the auction would have gone another $40.00 I bet, cracks are hard to tell with buyers can go either way.

The trip out to meet the razor guy was a complete and total bust today. I pulled the blade holders out of the box to discover the bottoms were rotted out. I did however find a single ring in near mint condition at a very low price of course again without blade holders so the hunt is still on.
