Double Ring auction fiasco

Yesterday I was in the right place at the right time on the Bay found a just posted double ring for $59.00 buy it now so I bought it now and paid immediately http://www.ebay.com/itm/300913794874?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649. I was floating on a cloud until I received a message from the buyer that she had to cancel the transaction because she listed the buy it now at the incorrect price. I asked what the correct price should have been she replied $159.00 so I told her what the heck I will pay the extra $100 for the razor. About five minutes later I received a request via Paypal for $100.00 to the seller.

I decided to solicit info on this situation here via PM through some of the members in the know and after feedback decided that I would pass on the purchase it was just a little fishy. Once I responded to the buyer that I was out she sent a request to cancel the transaction without refunding me the original $59.00 so I call customer service and they advise me not to agree to cancel until I get a refund. An hour later I received my refund agree to cancel the transaction no big deal I gave the seller the benefit of the doubt maybe it was an honest mistake.

A few hours later I get another message from the seller apologizing for having to cancel the transaction. Here is where I become heated and lose faith in humanity. The seller stated that within 5 minutes of the auction end her mail box was full of messages telling her that she made a mistake by selling the razor for so cheap and had dozens of offers much higher than her selling price so she decided to take one of the higher offers and that this was the real reason the purchase was cancelled.

I was very upset that the purchase was cancelled but in a strange way relieved that she told me the truth. I hope I do not see this razor posted here as a recent purchase as I am sure my fellow B&B'ers would never sink to a low of this nature. Lesson learned on this one, from now on patience is my new virtue and I will ween myself off auction sites and stick to BST here.

I'm sorry to hear that Gary. Everything about that just stinks. You had the sale locked in but I guess at the end the buyer gets to choose who they sell to and chase the almighty dollar. If I had one to sell you I would as I'm not an O/C guy. If I ever run into one I'll drop you a line.

I've bid on items before and had them end abruptly because the seller was offered a crazy sum of money for the razor so I know the frustration you must be feeling.

Really though in all actuality haven't you entered into a contract? She offered, you accepted and paid. She messed up. I'm just glad you ended up with your money back. Another reason why I rarely use the bay.

I had a similar situation happen, although the money total was much smaller. I bid $1 on an Avon DE Razor decanter that was mislisted and ended up winning. The seller attempted to cancel the transaction because her husband was upset that it didn't sell for more. I refused the cancellation and eventually got my item. Once the auction/BIN is over it is entirely in the buyer's control to allow the transaction to get cancelled. You could have stood your ground and got the razor but that doesn't really help now.

As much as that sucks I wouldn't feel too bad. eBay is a slime pit by nature and the actions you witnessed are commonplace. I just avoid eBay.

Thanks for the warning I didn't know this was happening.
Yes it happens often. This is why memebrs are not allowed to bring attention to auctions. But I feel Gary's frustration as he paid for it twice only to have it taken from him from someone else. This is just wrong. It happened with bottom dial recently and there was a big discussion on that. There is no winning this argument as one side will say a seller can do whatever they want etc while another the opposite. Sigh.
But to end on a good note there are honest sellers out there and they happen to be here on B&B.

Well that is text perfect examples of how people get tossed off of ebay

#1 changing the price after the sale
#2 selling off of ebay to avoid paying fees

Ha! Good point Turtle. It's not like eBay can't see what happened as it owns PayPal. Funny.
Buyer-"Psst let's go around eBay and they won't know"
Seller -"Ok. Sounds good"

That's an absolute :cursing::cursing::cursing:! I feel exactly the same way about this too Gary. I really believe you should report this. Shame on the bottom-feeders who do this.
Ebay is no longer the hip, fun place it used to be.

This sort of thing happens all the time on ebay. Unfortunately.

Some people have no honour. That includes the seller for not honouring the deal that was struck, and particularly the kind of person who encourages the seller to do it for their own benefit.

Bummer man, that really sucks. You could have kept te seller to the implied contract and gotten it for the BIN price, but glad you got out of it. I've never had any problems on Ebay, as I buy alot of vinyl albums and shaving supplies on the BAY but I'm pretty sure this type of crap happens quite often. The seller realizes they can get more and get greedy. Good luck on your next try.

Ebay will not be pleased with this. I would definitely report the situation to Ebay. The seller broke Ebay seller rules and should be disciplined.

Regardless of the outcome, I agree with this.
People do this because they get away with it.
People get away with it because other people don't push for proper resolution.

You have the e-mails from the seller and those ought to go to eBay.

And all the "helpful" people who contact sellers and tell them about the mistakes they've made?

just stop it.

A seller has an Aristocrat they have listed as a Tech. Helpful person contacts the seller. Seller increases the price on said item.
Same seller has a Tech they have listed as an Aristocrat. Helpful person contacts the seller. Seller tells helpful person to bug off.

Just as buyers have a responsibility to ensure that they know what they are buying, sellers have a responsibility to know what they are selling.
If either one doesn't self educate, then the other is in for a bargain. That's the natural flow of doing business.

Seems unfair and against both specified and implied rules at ebay. Along with complaining to ebay, can you at least get minimal satisfaction by entering negative ratings and review of the seller to warn future potential buyers?

Since you got the refund already... I reckon that other the disappointment that the purchase fell through due to the seller's loss of integrity... I guess it's just a bad experience that you will recover from... but again, I know it sucks that it happened to you.

eBay has very little tolerance when they lose money.

They lost the selling commission.

this is a termination/revocation mistake.

the seller and who ever convinced them to take money out of eBay's pocket will find their accounts canceled.

Just make sure you get the negative feed back on their account before their account is canceled

I contacted called Ebay customer service and explained the situation in detail. Ten minutes later received a message from Ebay asking if I would grant permission for Ebay to view the messages pertaining to the transaction, I gladly agreed. For me the case is closed because I did receive the refund. As someone stated above Ebay customer was peevved at the seller for her actions and maybe she will get her hand slapped.
