Double Arrow, they any cop?

I love my GD, I've put blood, sweat, but no tears into making it sharp and almost sexy (needs new scales) and love shaving with it but I have seen talk of the Double Arrow. I know it's 3 times the price but is it any good? Do you need to doctor it too or does it come ready to hone-ish.

Cheers,

Paul

I got one from mysteryrazor a couple years back. Supposed to be Stainless... but I don't know many stainless that get rust spots after sitting dry for a little over a year.

That said. Mine had no problems. It's straight. Hones easily. Scales were total crap, but who cares. It's in vintage bone now. Edge is as good as vintage razors... depends on the finish, which means the steel is fine.

$20? It's a steal if you get one without problems. I'd be happier if it were SS, but compare it to the alternative? A $20 vintage crapshoot on eBay? I'll take the gold dollar every day.

Balance isn't amazing. Not a problem shaving, but a bit awkward on the strop. The spine is heavy, makes the rolls have a different feel than other razors.

the model numbers are different steel types...the 66 is different in feel and weight to the 208 and even 300 model

I just recently got a couple double arrows model 66's. The steel is extremely soft, spines bent to the point where you can feel the razor shift when honing. Guess I got the bad end of a batch. I'll stick to my beloved GD's, haven't gotten a bad one yet except for cosmetic issues easily fixed.

I don't think they are different steels, just different grinds and scales. Except for the model 800, which actually IS stainless steel.
