Dollar General Blades

Hello everyone, I just wanted to receive some input on the Dollar General Blades. My research has revealed that they are made in Korea by one of the name brand manufactures. I'm not sure which one. This morning I used one in my 77 super adjustable and I have to admit, it was a nice smooth shave. I generally use the Derbys but they are surprisingly good blades. Much better than the Wal-Mart Personna blades. What do you gents think?

They are probably the much maligned, sometimes loved Dorco brand.

I've always found them to be good, serviceable blades, and smoother than ASR Personna blades and the clones thereof. I like the ST-301 better than the ST-300, but when you mention Dorco around here get ready to start ducking some rotten tomatoes.

How much are they charging, and how are they packaged?

I was just there two days ago. I believe they were 5 blades for $1.00. They are packed in the same style of blade dispenser as the Wal-Mart Personna's.

Nope, it's thicker on the Korean made DG blades. The previous DG Brand blades WERE Personna blades and they were good ones. I have not tried the new Korean made blades but I DO know that Chairman Kim says that everything produced under Lee Myung Bak's gov't is garbage.

Its either 5 or 10 yeah, I don't remember I just picked up a pack and put it down last night, I should have actually bought it.

I tried the dollar general ones but don't remember which ones they were. If I remember right they done fairly good but I'm doing mostly crystals and red pack personnas. I'm also finding blades act different in different razors. Or I think they do!

When I started DE shaving in April 2008, the Dollar General blades were made in Israel and were pretty good. They took a marked step backward with the Korean blades - they shave somewhere between the Dorco ST-300 and the ST-301 (closer to the 300, IMO).

I tried some DG blades that were made in USA, but it was not the typical personna dispenser. I heard somewhere that dorco had a US factory, but I don't actually know who made the blades.

The blades were good, sharp and smooth, for one shave only. The second shave was garbage.

I can agree that the first shave with the Korean DG blades was nice then turned to crap after the first shave.

They are OK for once or twice. After they do not shave worth a darn. They come in a 5 pack for a buck. I use Gillette Super Stainless, Super Inoxydable blades that I get at my local ma & pa pharmacy. These blades are made in Russia and come in a ten pack. They sell for 6 and change a pack. They give a good shave and last a long time.

I actually get some pretty good shaves out of the Super Inoxydable blades as well.

I'll take pic and post for you. They are very good blades. Bit pricey, but worth it.

They are available at my local Rite Aid, and they are beyond pricey at something like $11.99 for 10 blades. That's highway robbery considering there are top quality blades available for as little as $.10 each!!

The Gillette Super Stainless Super Inoxydable is generally considered to be one of the worst blades on the market. It's even been suggested that Gillette makes these blades super horrid on purpose, for sale within the us, to discourage anyone from ever thinking about using a DE razor!! See reviews here:

Anything between a Dorco ST-300 and an ST-301 is not going to find a home in my shaving den, that's for sure.
