Does anyone remember Quantum Leap?

As the thread title states, I'm interested in what people think of this show.

Also, I'm curious as to how I can get ahold of unaltered versions of the show. The DVD releases replace many of the copyrighted music that was originally used, which absolutely destroyed my favorite scene of the whole series.

Anyway, anyone remember this one?

Yeah it was a good show. I didn't catch every episode, but they had some great storylines and I loved it when they coincided in different episodes. I always wondered when he would get back to his own body, too bad Ziggy couldn't tell him that. I wouldn't mind getting those on DVD myself.

"...ohhhhh boy."

I watched often and enjoyed it except for the final episode which I found so unsatisfying and depressing that I never watched reruns.

Side note: Dennis Wolfberg, who played "Gushie" in some episodes, was a terrific stand-up comedian in his own right and on the cusp of stardom when he was cut down by cancer in 1994.

Wow, I'm surprised that they change the music for the DVD. I guess the deals they made didn't include DVD rights. Bummer.

I had a recent epiphany about QL. I was watching a 2 hour respective on Animal House (highly recommended) which featured quite a bit of screen time for Bruce McGill, who played D-Day. I suddenly connected D-Day to Al the Bartender!

I had no idea he succumbed to cancer. He was a regular on Comedy Central's various stand up showcases in the early nineties. Very funny man.

I watched this from time to time when I was younger, but I also hated the final episode, which I was only able to read about since I couldn't find the episode online. A while ago, whoever owned the rights (I'm pretty sure it was CBS.com) put some full episodes on their website along with a bunch of other old classics like Star Trek (original) and MacGyver, among others. If they still have it on their website, it might have the original music, but I have no idea.

Ahhh.... MacGyver. Not to derail the thread, but my best memories from that show are almost always Murdoc (Michael Des Barres) getting blown up/drowning/burning/falling off a mountain, screaming "MACGYVER!!!!!"

You knew he'd be back, with fresh scars or minus a hand. Something.

So... yeah... Quantum Leap... Loved it. Back on topic now.... sorry... :blushing:

Yes, and being the typical comedian he could make fun of it:

Quantum Leap was a great show. I think CBS canceling it at the last minute had a lot to do with the last episode being crappy. Anyhow, I have the first 2 seasons on DVD.

That's a bummer about the music. Pretty much any place you'll find it with the original music will be VHS rips and technically illegal. I checked a few of my regular sources and couldn't find anything but DVD rips.

I had the same problem with WKRP in Cincinnati, which was heavily dependent on the original music. The problem is that back then, TV episode sales were pretty much non-existent, so the music rights were acquired for broadcast only, not redistribution.

My girlfriend's parents have the entire thing on DVD but I haven't re-watched Quantum Leap lately, but I loved it as a kid, I just fear that it won't live up to my expectation/memory.

Quantum Leap was a great show.

They did the same thing with Northern Exposure -- the DVDs do not have all the original music (which was a big part of the show). The company that bought the rights to sell the DVDs did not buy the copyrights for the music (to save money). It's a shame.

CBS is also well-known for doing everything they can to botch or prevent a first run of DVD sales, that way they can really rake in the dough when they release a good DVD for 10 times the price.

I loved that show. I really started to get into it toward the end of its run. I liked the evil leaper story line. At the time, I was also freaked out by the crazy lady that could see Sam. She is/was a fairly familiar type cast actress with very creepy eyes. They looked like the eyes of an Alaskan Husky that would look right through you. I believe her name was Meg Foster. Attractive women, except for the creepy eyes.

I forgot about her! As a little kid... I was always freaked out when I saw her.

I watched it every now and then. I liked the episodes I saw. I definitely feel everybody's pain on the music. I got some DVD's of shows I watched as a kid, and not only did they jack up the music, they hit the sound effects as well(Bummer!).

I watched every new episode w/ my parents. Then in college I watched every episode again and now when I see it that it's on, I watch it. I really do enjoy that show.

MacGyver... That brings me memories. In Portugal, they used to pass that series on TV at 7.00 PM every Sunday. And something that couldn't happen nowadays: Everyone watched it!

I think I watched all of the first 3 seasons, and parts of the 4th.

I always liked the show. Too bad it's not on reruns anymore.
