What's new

Does anyone recognize this razor?

I posted this in another thread but I thought that I'd make a new post just about this razor. I can't find a name on it anywhere. Does anyone know anything about it? It's a brute and it's made in the USA.

The razor of mine that your razor resembles is a Heppenstall, identical to an open comb Barbasol. The Barbasols and Heppenstalls I've seen (not that I've seen a lot of them) are marked with their names on the side opposite Made in USA.

Must be a rare prototype Barbasol. Better put it on ebay with a $1,000.00 reserve.

Seriously though, have you shaved with it yet?

I agree. Being made in USA, it's either one of the first, since it's patent pending, Heppenstalls or first Barbasols. I'm going with the Barbasol because from the pictures of both in Waits Safety Razor Compendium, the Barbasol's neck was thinner than the Heppenstall as is the Op's pictured razor. Also the knurling didn't go as far up the handle on the Heppenstall as it did on the Barbasol and on the Op's pictured razor.

I do believe that it is an early Barbasol. I just polished it up and I posted some pictures of mine along with some of "cutting edge" from B & B for comparison. I think that this is an awesome find, I always like find these obscure razors that I didn't know existed. I still haven't tried it yet but I'll keep you guys posted. I'm also posting a pic of the blank name plate.

Here's images of a Heppenstall.

...after a little research it appears Heppenstall made these for Barbasol. Heppenstall was a diversified steel mfg company in Lawrenceville, PA that went out of business in 1979.

They mfr'd all kinds of OEM branded things as well as dies and molds for many household items.

Allegedly they entered the razor business in the '30's because one of their VP's had a bad shaving experience with some imported Swedish blades.

You can't make this stuff up, fellas.

Look it up if you don't believe me!!

Someone just bought one eBay. I chickened out on this one after I realized it was missing a tooth but am still curious to how it might shave.

I am fascinated by the reverse stud and it looks like a heavy razor that might actually deliver a good shave.

The images in this string are a good represenatation of the one sold on eBay but you should be able access the ended auction here:

Let me know if not and will post some pics.
