On the second photo you can see some inscriptions. It is printed in gold. Below you can read "Rein Dachs" which is German for "Real Badger"
Above that inscription the brandname is revealed. The paint is faded and the last three characters are "..ria"
In the middle of the brandname ther is a huge diamondshape/reversed pyramid. The first character is probably a "V".
Does anyone recognize this brush? What brand is this and what quality?

It's interesting to hear that the word 'Dachs' means badger. Would I be right in thinking that the breed of dog Dachshund translates as badger hound, and that they were originally bred for hunting badgers?

This is correct. Dachs is the German word for badger, and Dachshund means Badger Hound. They were bred for badger and fox hunting. Mean little dogs that would go fearlessly into the burrows or dens of these animals and flush them out, so the hunter could dispatch the fox or badger. Believe me, I have two Dachshunds, nowadays they make great pets....although they still have that hunting instinct.

Thanks Rudy. That's fascinating, and just goes to prove that you really do learn something new every time you visit this site - and not always about shaving!
