What's new

Does anyone know anything about Nemosine singularity ?

15 bucks, for a FP with a lot of Nib options, doesnt look to bad, takes international carts and comes with a converter. Sounds like a great starter pen, but then I know nothing about them,

http://www.xfountainpens.com/SearchResults.asp?Search=singularity+pen&Submit=Search

can find them there, with all kinds of choices, all i can read is German Nib, which says to me chinese pen, but that isnt fair to say without knowing for sure as it looks to be a fine choice for a beginner pen as long as it write okay

Anyone have one ?

I haven't seen or tried one, but there are several reviews over on FPN, and the reviews and comments were generally positive. They're made in China (Taiwan?) and seem to have genuine German nibs, so I would expect them to be pretty decent performers. For the price, they definitely sound like a good deal.

Wow may have to grab one to try out may have another first pen to recommend to new guys looking to have fun with us and dont care for a medium pen

There were a lot of reports of the caps of those pens arriving new with cracks below the lowest ring on the cap, nearest the opening. That put me off trying one. Lots of people haven't had that issue, however, so for that sort of money, it may be worth a try. I decided to save my money for something more risk-free and less Chinese. I should also note that you could get a Jinhao X750 and some Knox nibs to play with (which are really nice!) for the same sort of money.

Taiwanese pen retrofitted with a German nib. Some users report caps cracking. Looks OK, and you gotta love that name.

I shoulda got one and a couple tacos instead of that Konrad.

The " try to take off the cap, accidentally take off the barrel " thing, has kept me from wanting to try this pen. Maybe they've remedied this? It would drive me nuts to wind up with the barrel, in my hand, instead of the cap.

I hadn't heard about that! That would be annoying, for sure.

The two things he comments on are, the ink getting in the cap and the barrel issue. ( skip to 9:00 in the video ) I had ideas of making this an eyedropper until I saw the vid. Most would say " just use the converter " but I have a serious problem looking at a converter in a demonstrator. ( maybe some counseling would change my mind LOL )

FWIW: A friend purchased a Nemo from Amazon and is ready to send it back. His Nemo, at least has ink flow problems, unless his converter is completely full.

I bought one based on this thread and it arrived today. No cracks and the cap comes, and the barrel stays on, off as expected. Ink flow is good so far, although the converter is full, and the steel .8 italic nib is surprisingly smooth. Overall, good bang for the buck in my experience.

Awesome to hear. Do you own any other FP's you can compare to that may help others enjoy it as well.

I'm glad your happy with the pen I know a couple of people with with them and they like them as well

Yep, this is the latest of over one hundred, mostly vintage. It's not as robust as a Lamy Safari, but far better that the previous Chinese pens I've tried. I would say better than a Parker Vector and almost on par with a Sheaffer No Nonsense as far as quality. Overall, it's a $14 Chinese pen, but without the manufacturing "challenges" I've seen in other Chinese pens that people tend to buy by the dozen to get a few that work.

With more nib options and an included converter it may be a good beginner option as a alternative to a metropolitan then... that's good to know

lol not a replacement, but not everyone will love the metro, its just nice to have a few different pens to show members so they can pick what is best suited for them, having a converter come with the pen is a big deal to me for a new guy coming in who may want to have one pen and a lot of different inks to begin with, specially since we always suggest ink samples from goulets to start.

was just a thought

In all seriousness, the Singularity may be a starter pen option, but I would feel bad if I pointed a new fountain pen user to a pen that arrived with cracks, fell apart, or leaked all over the place. A pen with a converter included is a big deal, but there are many such options in the sub-$20 space. Maybe they got the bugs worked out of this pen, but I'd be hesitant to recommend it just yet. That's just my opinion, though.

I Know a really experienced guy, I know what cool pens he has as well, and he loves giving them out to people for starter pens. He buys them gets them then gives them out, so they are going through his hands, seems odd to me he has had multiple ones come and go, and never had a problem, and yet so many others have. But yeah i agree, i dont want to start someone off with a bad pen either, so as a team decision, ill recommend the metro, and Andy you tell em they should get this one... you know just in case its bad
