Does anyone have their own letterhead stationery?

If so what do you have?

I'm looking at having a custom letterhead printed for my letter writing and need some tips. What should it say? name address? just name? logo? blank pages? lined pages?

I would like my letters to be somewhat professional. Or rather look nicer than just tearing a sheet out of a notebook. Also if my letter goes over one page do I continue the letter on another letterhead or blank sheet of paper?

Thanks folks!

also i'll be using a fountian pen for writing on this. so what type of paper would be good? cotton? linen? woven? textured? or would they all work and its just a personal preference?

I had some at one time, many years ago during the '70s. I think it said, in the upper left corner, "From the desk of Doug Jxxxxxxx"

It was a quality bond paper, long before the era of cheap copy paper, and was used for handwritten letters by me or my typist. I had some matching smaller note pads.

I like the simpleness of that. Mine won't be used for any business. strictly personal. Nice and simple, yet.....dignified. I've never done this before so looking for ideas. thanks!

If I was going to do this, I would just rep. a Badger symbol in the corner. I think it would throw people off enough that they would ask about it , then just enable them to this site.:biggrin1:

Yeah, that wouldn't be appropriate for business. I think it was even embossed ... stuff like that used to be cheap and stationers were plentiful.

Just business letter head that is printed via the color lazer when the correspondence are printed

Now half as wise
Oh, for the days of easily available bonded paper. (BTW that's how I got my CT, but that's another thread!:lol:) My favorite its the 100% cotton rag from Crown Mill. I took some to my local printer and had them print name and address at the top. No logo, etc. Very understated. I looked into having it embossed (my preference) but they no longer did that in house, and my options for paper were more limited, so I elected not to do that.

Second page of the letter is blank, no letterhead. Only unlined, IMO. I usually place a piece of lined paper underneath. Enough shows thru to keep things aligned.

Words which could have come from my very own mouth.

Before e-communication was such a big thing, I lived in Japan and wrote bundles of letters on a very regular basis. Letterhead was simply my (our) address on bonded paper and it was certainly a pleasure to write....

great info. so the second page would be the same type of paper as the letterhead but only completely blank? or just a standard piece of paper? I'm thinking the same type of paper correct?

most the paper i'm finding is watermarked. Such as Southworth. Does a watermark matter?

Back in the stone age when I used a daisy wheel printer (NEC Spinwriter) I had a dual bin sheet feeder. Letter head paper went in one bin and the same paper without the letter head with in the other bin.

that is the way it was in the way back years anyway :001_smile

I have been thinking about making a laptop desk. On the top I would make a relief deep enough so that I could put a piece of sheet LED with glass over the top as a writing surface. The gentle light shining through the paper would help older eyes. I must start thinking this out- it could be epic.

Every letter I have received from people who use letterhead use it on the first page only, subsequent pages being blank paper of the same stock.

watermarks are generally a sign that you have at least decent grade paper, and not mass produced junk.

Jason: head over to Vistaprint. They always have some sort of deals on and I know they have some stationary packs. You can quick design your own letterhead and envelope. It's worth a look see.

I remember back in the day ....

When I was newly married the organisation where I worked had a print shop. So as newlyweds we go stationery with our name and address at the top and this verse at the bottom of the page:

'The Lord bless you and keep you;
the Lord make his face shine on you
and be gracious to you;
the Lord turn his face toward you
and give you peace.'
Numbers 6:24 - 26

Not lined but we had lined card we used underneath to provide direction. Subsequent pages were blank but of the same stock.

Of course now we just email :)

I used to make letterhead for people. I didn't make lots, but made lots for the few I made some for. Not doing it anymore, but you could find some poor art students who like to print...

And no - I'm not advertising this - I don't make these anymore. :)
