I use Vitos pre-shave occasionally. I'm not sure it does much, my shaves certainly aren't any worse without it. But it smells nice and part of the reason I shave like this is for the enjoyment of nice things, so why not.

Why not, indeed! Good for you old bean.

I use various pre-shave gels and oils. I think they help on the first pass, but not so much on subsequent passes. They help keep my face moist while drying off from the shower before I start applying the lather. Nice smelling stuff is nice and when I use either a menthol or clove preshave I like the initial tingle.

I use the AOS pre-shave gel, and like Bhorsoft said, it really helps on the first pass, not so much on subsequent passes. It feels nice on my face and helps keep things moist as I dry off after the shower. I haven't used a pre-shave oil in a long time.

I don't use a specific pre-shave product, but I do find that a good soaping with a regular face soap helps soften my whiskers prior to lathering.

But not every soap works. I tried Dove, which I like as a soap, but it didn't help with my shave, but Imperial Leather makes a noticeable difference.

I use either my own recipe or T&H pre shave oil. Generally, I apply it before my ATG pass.

I have a very thick, wiry beard. Plus I have sensitive skin. I have been using pre-shave oil for years. Pre shave oil is designed to give your skin an added layer of protection prior to apply a shaving soap or cream lather. The additional benefits of pre-shave oil are that it moisturizes the skin and protects your skin from razor burn or irritation. Pre-shave oil is one of those things that is an individual thing. Some find it helpful and some don't. For me, it has resulted in a better, closer shave without irritation.

I have tried a couple of pre-shaves. The AoS pre-shave oil made my face break out. Proraso white pre-shave smells nice but doesn't seem to make any difference to my shave.

Lately, my routine has been to shower and wash my face first. Then I make my lather, brush on a bit and rub it in, let it sit for a minute and rinse it off. Then I re-lather and start shaving. That seems to do a better job of conditioning my beard than the other methods. I think skin type and beard quality have a lot to do with whether pre-shave products work or not. For me, they weren't worth the extra money.

Nope. U
I used Proraso Anti Irritation Pre-Shaving Cream for a while in the early going, when I was learning to shave and getting a lot of razor burn. It seemed to make a difference. As my technique improved, I found that I didn't need pre-shave. I just use soap and hot water now.

I always use a pre-shave product, none are really traditional though. Some of the products I have used are: massage/moisturizing oil (cheap and effective at moisturizing and lubricating), Rise shaving cream (super cheap and softens the hair), and good old glycerine soap. I have never tried a traditional pre-shave product, but probably will at some point. I notice a huge difference between using and not using one of these products and that is probably due to the fact that I shower at night and shave in the morning. This extra step provides the extra conditioning and moisturizing that most probably achieve with a nice hot shower. I have also had success with constantly splashing my face with hot water, but I find the pre-shave is faster and I don't make as big of a mess.

I use Corn Husker's or Noxema. I think it makes a difference, although I don't always use a pre-shave.

I bought some when I first bought a straight razor. I tried that (Taconic, I think it is) and have also just used straight jojoba oil. I'm not sure either has done anything helpful at all. I pretty much don't remember I have it in the cupboard except every once in a while. I'll put some on my neck if I have some irritation from a prior shave, and I remember.

No. I shave post-shower without difficulties, and don't feel I need the added moisturizing to my already oily-prone skin.
