Do You Talc?

I was in TJ Maxx the other day, and they had a couple dozen bottles of Caswell-Massey talc. They had all the classic scents: rose, lily of the valley, honey suckle. They were 4.99 each! I love lily of the valley, so simple, so I grabbed a bottle, and it smell great. But I have a couple of questions. First, how many of you guys use talc, second, When and Where do you use it, and why do you like to use it. This is a quality product that I got at a wonderful price, but not quite sure how to take advantage of it.

I like to use talc after shaving and applying a nice menthol splash during the hot and humid summer months. I have dry skin problems during the winter and ridiculously oily skin during the humid summer months.

If you are prone to dry skin problems talc might not be the best option as it will absorb the oils off your face and dry you even more.

I have a cheap boar brush that I use to apply talc on my face. Just pour some talk on a small dish/bowl/mug and swirl the brush lightly over the talc. The trick is not using too much so it doesn't show on your face after you are done. A little goes a long way.

YMMV

I agree with Alfredo; Talc is great during the hot and sticky summer months. I rarely use it in the winter. If you have very dry skin it may not provide much benefit.

I primarily use talc in the spring/summer. I use it on my body to help absorb moisture and sometimes on the back of my neck to help keep my shirt collars dry.

Clubman Talc for late spring and summer months, helps to keep one fresh and dry. Everyday for the undercarriage and if I wear a shirt and tie around the neck. Been using it for years either just by puffing some on by hand or simply sprinkle some on a slightly damp towel to pat it on, saw a barber do this years ago.

I just about cover my body with talc when it is hot outside. Fill my shoes and my boxers. Put it on my chest and neck. It helps delay the effects of a hot work day.

I use clubman talc. But if I ever find another "man" smelling talc I would give it a try too.

Nice tip!

This is great:w00t: I have been wondering about how to properly apply talc. The SWMBO thinks its silly:001_tt2: I just need to find a manly smelling one now.

+1
On the neck, it keeps the shirt collar from chafing.

I really like a Talc finish and use a 'talc pad'.

Following your post shave routine, pat face dry with towel. Rather than hand application or using a brush (these will 'spill' and get talc on your clothes), I make a talc pad.

Take a small dry washcloth folded in half. Add a small amount of talc product to the washcloth, fold in half again with the talc on inside and rub it folded with itself to distribute.

To use, unfold, gently pat on face and you'll get a light application of the talc. Refold, and with the outside of the pad, lightly brush the applied areas. The talc on your face will vanish, but leave your face unbelievably soft and smooth.

Fold and set the talc pad aside for use on subsequent days. A light application of talc to the pad is sufficient for a week of applications or more. When it gets too light, just 'recharge' the pad with additional talc. After several months, just launder the washcloth/talc pad and start over as above.

There are a number of scented talcs matching fine fragrances from several of the fine fragrance houses; Floris, Penhaligons, etc.

With a smooth, comfortable shave, and some nice talc you'll learn about 'faceturbating'.

Faceturbating?! I do it every morning... sometimes at night!!

Never tried a talc before but it does sound pleasant. I'll have to pick some up and give it a try.

Using talc is fine.

Just be careful you don't end up being a guy who talc too much:

Fill an old sock with powder to make a great applicator.

I've been doing this for quite a while with Clubman. Works like a charm. As an added tip, if you position a zip-tie or elastic a little way down from the opening, you can fold over some of fabric creating a sealed, but easily refillable talc applicator. This prevents having to use another sock when the talc runs out (as wouuld be the case if you tie the end), and also eliminates those unfortunate incidents that involve a whole bunch of talc spilling out of the open end of the sock.

I should also note that this method gets amazing mileage out of your talc, and provides very consistent application.
