What's new

Do you remember your first.

I just shaved for the first time with my 1947 Gillette SS with Astra SP blades. I can't believe I wasted all those years scraping my face with those awful disposables. I actually got so excited I ended up shaving my entire caveman like chest. I think I'm in love.

Do you remember your first time? I doubt I'll ever forget mine.

It was only back in February so yeah. Intimidating, yet amazing.
Merkur 33c
CO Bigelow cream
Treet blade
EJ boar brush
Nivea sensitive balm
Result: CCS

Mine happened about a year ago. I got a 1960s travel tech some drugstore blades, vdh soap, and vdh boar brush. The results included a dfs with no nicks or cuts, a new found manliness, and a priceless money pit of a hobby.

sort of, I used a Gillette fat boy with a store brand blade caned foam no prep and got a razer burn to remember and a bunch of nicks. But I remember feeling very good about having used a DE.
I decided at the time that I was going to keep shaving with DE blades.
It was very much like that time when Teresa and I, we were both in school back then of course...

I started out with DE's some 50 years ago, and I can remember getting pretty sliced up using my Fatboy. At the time, my Dad gave me the razor without any sort of instruction--you just worked it out for yourself. There was no available information about pressure, prep, etc. Anyway, I drank the Gillette koolaid for many years, buying the newest, latest shaving innovation seeking a clean, no cut shave. I progressed all the way to 4 blade disposables which I considered the pinnacle of shaving technology. I then ran across some articles about the return of the DE a few years ago and found B&B and discovered that there was a 'technique" in true wetshaving. Once I realized that is really wasn't like trying to cut cheese with a butter knife, I began to master the tools and found true enjoyment in shaving.

Oct 2012 - (after much research on B&B) my starting kit was: Futur, Derby, Faulding Shave Cream, generic badger brush - first shave left me a bit sore due to to much pressure and bad angles learned from many years of M3 use, still, I loved it and haven't picked up a cartridge since
