What's new

Do you love yo shave with your Kamisori?

I had yet another smooth, close & comfortable shave with my Kami! That's why it is my favorite straight!!

They ARE sharper than western straights..smooth also..but with my very coarse beard..gets em dulled much quicker than my western straights with equal use..12k+ grit stones are required to rehone easily..anyless from what I was told will leave deep scratches without an edge thats usable

I am adoring mine. It seems much sharper than my Western straights.

I have a couple I shave with probably 1 every week. But looking at a custom made one now for something different!

I have a couple, and yaknow.... I like them, but I think the "coolness" of them impresses me more than the performance. They work great, but when I went to my new Minimalist Shave Rig (TM) I didn't take them. I can get just as close a shave, with a little less messing around, with a western razor.

But they are well worth playing with for your own experimentation and curiosity.

I loved mine and really practiced using it in the traditional manner and I have a nice chin scar to prove that point. I sold it to a nice member in Florida prior to my leaving the Sunshine State to return to Indiana.

I like them a lot. I have not noticed them dulling quickly - but they certainly can be made sharp.

I also like the Feather AC and clones - both Kamis and ACs allow me to move around on my neck (hair grows in large swirls) much easier than the larger straights.

As a new kamisori shaver I'll say veddy interestingk but not quite love just yet :001_tt2: I do miss the more audible qualities of traditional straights. However today decided to give the kami with Neutrogena brushless another try to better be able to see what I was doing and at the end was able to attack whisker hairs individually with the point! So that was pretty cool. All my traditionals are round point so methinks a square point is in order, though for sure the shorter blade of the kamisori is quite helpful with that maneuver whichever the case.

Also I miss handling lovely scales vs. using minimalist rattan wrap. Scales can be argued to be as integral a part of the shave as the razor's edge itself but will leave that to someone else.

Began experimenting with using the ura side to shave with as well. Felt quite dangerous but without incident. So the jury still out on that for now as I refine my technique. I have one more day left in my 7 day test before returning to traditional razors but honestly am looking forward to tuesday.

update: final day of week long test. did my best to lather up the Osma puck in anticipation of a rough shave as have some bumps from yesterday's attempt plus was going to be more aggressive with the blade and was not unrewarded with lots of irritation :p I have no problem with getting a BBS on the sideburn and chin areas. It is the moustache area that I have the most trouble with regardless the razor type. today not as smooth as yesterday and trying to imitate all the passes as yesterday was rough esp. ATG. Am sure my stropping sucks and the edge could be refined more but out of my hands. Looks like Tuesday may not be a shave day :( but will see if my face calms down by then. So in the final analysis so far, I'm just not sure but again only know enough to be dangerous to myself.

update to the update: ok, no way this kamisori is shave ready to "our" standards here. used my fav "Xander razor" today and again what a joy! :) so my test is inconclusive and unfair comparison thus far. I'd like to get another and do the same out of the box test but need to let the card settle down a bit (as well as receive backorders in the mail!)

I very much love my kamisori. I dont use them every day, but they find time in the rotation at least 2 or 3 times a week.
