I always used creams, but I bought this 125g loccitane shaving soap. and decide to fit everything in a little container and use everything. that was 7 months ago, there is still 20% but it doesnt smell good anymore but still makes great lather. than i was wondering what do you guys usually do with your soap..??

I was thinking next time divide the soap so this doens't happen and the soap smell more fresh, also i got now chimensch's little lid and can't fit everything.

So can you guys post your thoughts about this thread?

best regards.

If it works good for shaving I keep using it. If I can't shave with it I use it in the shower.

What happens when you can't shave it?

in the shower you use it for body or face?

Scent is secondary to performance in my book.

IF it works, use it.

IF the scent bothers you, blend in some strong smelling soap or cream like Cella and make a super lather base out of it.

shower duty, testing brushes duty, break in boar duty.

they all work. there have only been a select few that hit the garbage as they smelled so bad, i didn't even want them in the shower.

i use up all of my puck before moving on to the next one and NEVER throw away my soaps. Granted, i only use Mike's and Mystic Water that usually last three months with daily use, but the scents never fade and are wonderful until the last little bit. You do what you want, but if it is still making good lather and you enjoy, why throw it away. Good luck.

He's from Canada, give him a break...oh wait, so are we

scratch that thought.

actually, I think I will try to implement this in 2013. I have been doing it for the past month or two and quite enjoy it. it really gives you a good length of time to fully enjoy it, learn how to perfect it and enjoy it. i still pull out a special one the odd w/end etc, but the bulk of my shaves have been using the same product over and over.

*that's* the part I'm trying to get my head around. I don't have time for that - I'm trying to get to nirvana right friggin' now. :biggrin1:

i have found that sometimes a product doesn't work well on the first couple uses, until you dial it all in...then it's smooth shaving and saves it from PIF, BST or Shower duty. :biggrin1:

That *is* inspiring. In fact if I wasn't so weak I'd drag my *** over to the 2013 SPS-GI and sign up. In fact on second thought, I'll give it until morning and *then* drag my *** over to the 2013 SPS-GI and sign up. If I still feel as strongly as I do right now... and that's a promise. :biggrin1:

To me, scent isn't as important as performance, but it is important- that is why I am getting Arko out of my den. If a soap lost its scent I probably wouldn't want it.

As long as it isn't objectionable for most soaps I don't give a rat's behind about the scent after the first couple of uses. As long as it lathers up reasonably well I am happy.

The only soap I've owned and used since I started this hobby 7 or 8 years ago is Trumper's Rose. I've probably gone through three pucks in that time and I'm still on that last (third) puck. I've kept the original bowl to this day! As they were good soaps, when they got to be really small in size, I have handed them to someone else in the family and bought a new one for my self.

Now, for stuff like Tabac, I have used them as bath soaps in the past (according to how well it works as one and how easy it is to hold - some shave soaps have awkward shapes!) but usually if there is something I am bored of, don't like or just don't see myself buying again I have put it up for sale.

Never had that happen.

They're equally important in my book. With the selection of soaps out there it doesn't seem like it should be impossible to find a soap that smells and performs as desired. Plus there are also the unscented options.

YMMV as with anything here. Do what works for you.

^ This. Soaps aren't all identical in how they load or lather. A single experience with anything isn't always indicative IMO no matter what the topic. There are plenty of things that I like that I didn't care for on my first experience. There are also some things I don't like no matter how much I try.
