Do you DE?

Yeah, odd question for this forum, but I wanted to ask it of the straight shavers. For those who came to straights from DEs, have you given up your DEs? If so, did you sell them or do you still have them?

I came to straights via DEs. I had been going back and forth for a while, but after a couple of epiphanies and a little more practice, I find I can get a BBS/DFS shave with a straight in 15-20 minutes more comfortably than my DE. At this rate, I haven't touched a DE in weeks and doubt I ever will again.

I travel just fine with my straights, so I don't think the convenience factor even comes into play for my DEs. I've thought about selling my DEs or perhaps selling all but my favorite (just in case) and was wondering what others have done.

I like to travel with DEs. It is just easier for me. I also shave with a DE when I am in a rush. Psychological reasons only, but it works for me.

I sold off my DE two years ago, but recently wanted to give them another try, just for the sake of variety, and to gain any possible further insight.....

I am once again selling off my DEs......:w00t:

There is a decided lack of *feel* of the edge with a DE, and a limited range of angle of attack that I find decidedly wanting.

Plus, it was a boring shave.:thumbdown

I use DE razors and have plenty blades on hand for those mornings when I'm pressed for time.

Still learning with a straight, so i still touch up with a de, plus at least one day a week i still use a de as i still like them, and also if i am in a rush, cant ever see me not using a de a few times a week as there is room for them both.

I did a couple SE shaves a while back but that was it. I've considered a Rolls Razor but never pulled the trigger on one.

The "in a hurry" component is actually what kept me going back and forth for a while, but with DE shaves taking me 5 - 10 minutes versus 15 - 20 minutes with a straight (from first lather to ASB [including stropping]), I can't imagine being in that big of a hurry. If I'm that pressed, I'll be 10 - 20 minutes late and not sweat it. If it's a true emergency, I wouldn't be concerned with a shave anyway. Sounds like timing is the biggest tipping point for most.

:w00t: and I almost referred to DEs as a gateway razor. Too funny!
Something that took so much skill to learn, that drew most of us here in the first place, turned out to be a gateway drug to something far greater. With that, the former challenge is a bore. :thumbup1:

I rotate weekly...with my daughter demanding more and more of my morning time, I'm finding I'm using my DE's more often than not...which is a shame since I enjoy shaving with my straights more...

I switch back and forth. I'm still learning how to use a straight so when i'm in rush I will use a DE plus a few days ago I found 3 different Gillette DE razors at a flea market so the last three shaves I have been using those just to see how they shave.

Like learning to drive a car. At first quite exciting, now just a daily commute...:tongue_sm

Straights are like motocross, on your face! Death and bodily peril around every curve!

Just my opinion, however...:tongue_sm

I haven't touched a DE since I picked up a straight two months ago... no touch-ups.. no nothin'!

But, they're all still here. One never knows what lays just around the next bend in life...
