What's new

Do we want another GD competition?

Do you want to pimp some more GD's?

  • Hell yes! That would be super fun!

  • Nah, we did that. Think of something new, lazy.

So basically, china makes these cheap-o, dollar store type piece of junk razors, that can't actually be used to shave without the end user making alterations to the blade.....and you want to know if we want to spend our valuable time working on these ugly things, just for a contest, with no prize?!

And so far it's 9 to 0 for Yes! I love this place

My first 5 just arrived in the mail saturday. This will be my first, so don't expect anything spectacular from me....but I'll try to contribute something :thumbup1:

That, or another funky-scales out of household scrap contest. There for awhile the contests were getting too close to each other (my opinion) but I think any excuse to encourage people to add something self-customized to their own collection would be fun.

Good point. Maybe make it an annual thing, and if you enter one year you have to sit out the next year. Or something. Clearly winners shouldnt be entering again.

Ah, but the winners are the ones who's work we all want to check out the most! Gotta give them a chance to defend their title.

I would have to sit this one out as well. All my tools and equipment is boxed up in storage.

I'm happy to put the GD comp on the back burner until January, making it more or less a year since the last one.

What month did we start the first comp, which I believe was the scrap heap challenge? If that is coming up to a year we could make it annual and do that instead.

Edit: It was October, and it was the unique scales comp that began it all. Would you rather do that?

This thread gave me an idea. What would you guys say to a competition where the winners have the option to put their creations up for auction with the proceeds going to support a charity?

See - now - that's what I'm talkin' about....

That - to me - is waaaaaaay more exciting than a GD anything.

I say yes, but I don't have a workshop, so I'll only be able to spectate or judge... how about a judging panel to pick the winner? Maybe combine a scoring system where each judge gets to see the razor first hand (via a pass around), then ship it to the next judge in a round robin.

That would be interesting, and it would allow the judges to really look at attention to detail and finish quality.
