Do old Gillette blades have any value to anyone?

I've accumulated about half a dozen Gillette Blue blades in various razor transactions, and a few other types. Does anyone collect or otherwise want these things? They're of historic interest, perhaps, but I wouldn't want to shave with an old unwrapped blade, no matter how good it looks.

If no one wants them for their vintageness, I just dip 'em in 91% alcohol and shave away..... :thumbup1:

Ouch!!

You so don't want to do that. Old carbon blades typically have not held up well, and the edge has degraded over time.

Even in their heyday, they would not compare to the modern blades of today, as they are un-coated carbon steel. At best they would give for a very rough shave, at worst, they would butcher your face up.

Well, in that case, they'd still work in an old utility knife for cutting and scraping crud, especially off of glass. :001_cool:

91% Isopropyl alcohol is available at most supermarkets and drug stores. It is usually right beside the regular rubbing alchohol and doesn't cost much more.

Where are you getting 91% alcohol? Isopropyl alcohol?

I agree about the blades. You would not like the shave. The paint-scraping idea is a good one.

I just want to know if anybody would want them for collector's purposes, or whether I should just trash them.

I like to put the correct blades in the cases I have to give the whole thing an origonal look. I have tried shaving with the real old school blades, and they are not really functional.

As collectibles, they would be of value to some. As blades to shave with, they would be of value to sadomasochists. Well, maybe a little exaggerated but they would not shave well at all when compared to more modern blades.

Are they just loose unwrapped blades? Loose wrapped blades? In dispensers? In boxes? Packs? I'm looking for a few Blue Blade particulars. Whatchoooo got? :001_smile

No, these are loose, unwrapped blades. As such, and considering their age, I wouldn't shave with them. But they look pristine; if they were cruddy I'd just toss them without a second thought. But if they would be of value to someone, I'd just as soon they had them.

Don't toss them, someone will want them if you offer a PIF.
I just did that for some old blades I had lying around, someone jumped on them right away and was very excited to add them to his budding collection of vintage blades.
