What's new

Do I dare.....?

I have just gotten into injectors. I have a few E, G, and L type Schicks.

They have all been cleaned very well, but I have never tried to turn the spring on the older ones for cleaning. Should I leave well enough alone?

I've killed one by trying to open it.

That said, IF you are very careful, it's surprising how much gunk you can unearth by opening a "clean" injector.

I placed one in an ultrasonic cleaner with a little barbicide and hot water. Do you think the ultrasonic cleaner will be able to get into all of the tight spaces without taking apart the razor?

It's not so much that I'm concerned that it is clean - curiosity is killing me. I don't want to destroy the razor in the process..

Yes, ultrasonic cleaners are very good for getting in hard to reach places. But Barbicide's not a cleaning agent, per se. You'd be better off with a couple of drops of Dawn dishwashing liquid or similar. Barbicide really disinfects best AFTER the item is clean.

I have successfully opened up, cleaned, and closed six of these without damaging them. In some cases I needed to tweak on the spring afterward to get it tight. I don't intend to do it a second time on any of them, but I wanted to get the old second-hand gunk out of there before replacing it with my own gunk. As you can tell, I now have plenty of them and probably will never do this again.

Plenty of knowledgeable people advise against doing this, and there definitely is a chance of breaking something.:scared: If you open it up and break it, sorry, I won't give you one of mine. It's just that I think it usually should work if you're careful. I am not mechanically skilled at all, but perhaps I'm lucky.

Oh, just to be clear, I am talking only about the E and G types. I have never attempted to open up the later ones, and don't intend to, although I do have one I2 Hydro-Magic.
