Do badger hair brushes normally stink?

Not had one yet that stunk. That includes a Progress Vulfix, Simpson Commodore, 2 x Lijuns, Omega and 2 cheap badgers. I must have been lucky!

I've only had one brush with a terrible smell but after a few test lathers with MWF everything was fine

Try washing with Dawn Dish Soap. Leave the lather on for a couple of hours and rinse it out! This helped one of my stinkers

I received a VDH badger hair brush for Christmas. I used it once and it really smells bad, wet dog bad. Is this normal for a badger hair brush? My boar hair brush does not smell bad to me. If this is normal, does the smell subside over time?

Only the free-rangers stink- no telling where they've been.
